Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks lost the first game of their doubleheader on Monday, June 16, to the Rochester Honkers 8-0 at Riverfront Stadium in just six innings due to some rain in the area.

After an RBI groundout in the top of the first, the Honkers secured all the scoring they needed for the entire game as the Bucks scored no runs for the first time in any contest all year. This loss also marks only the second time this year Waterloo has dropped consecutive games. The one other time this happened was when the Bucks fell in back-to-back games to the Thunder Bay Border Cats and the Eau Claire Express on June 6 and June 7.

Jake Bechtel and Kinnick Pusteoska finished the game as the lone Bucks who logged hits. Bennett Fryman’s walk in the first frame and Caleb Parker’s hit-by-pitch to start the sixth inning created the only other baserunners of the contest for Waterloo.

Parker Sweeney finished the day with 5 IP, allowing seven hits, two walks and five earned runs while striking out three. The eight runs scored by Rochester are tied for the most the Bucks have allowed in any game all season. This result has occurred just three times this year with the other two games including yesterday’s 8-4 loss to the La Crosse Loggers and the 9-8 Bucks win against the Mankato Moondogs on May 31.

Game two is still on for tonight at 6:35 pm (CDT) at Riverfront Stadium. Right-handed pitcher Camden Lyke will take the mound for the Bucks against the southpaw Ian Regal for the Honkers.
