Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks split a doubleheader with the Thunder Bay Border Cats on Tuesday, June 24, gaining momentum going into their longest road trip of the season.

In game one, the Bucks launched a comeback effort that fell just short with the winning run at the plate as Waterloo lost 6-3.

Pitching in his Northwoods League debut, Brady Baur struck out a game-high five batters across three innings of work while allowing only two hits to keep the Bucks in the game down the stretch.

Sam Finn led Waterloo in hits with two in just two at-bats. After failing to reach base in all four of his plate appearances, Marcus Heusohn’s on-base streak stopped at 23 straight games, the longest by any Buck this season.

In game two, the Bucks responded with a 6-3 victory of their own.

Owen Ross and Jimmy Nugent both contributed with home runs to lift the Bucks to a win.

After hurling a scoreless sixth frame, Tyler Glowacki earned his fifth win of the season, standing alone atop the wins leaderboard in the NWL. Chris Petersen’s streak of 16 consecutive innings without allowing a run came to a halt in the fifth when three of his runners crossed the plate.

Jake Bechtel drove in two, and Parker Sweeney knocked in one en route to a triumph for Waterloo.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 25, the Bucks begin their longest road trip of the year as they take on the Willmar Stingers at Bill Taunton Stadium at 6:35 pm (CDT).
