Thunder Bay, ON – The Waterloo Bucks dropped their first game of the second half on Tuesday, July 1, at Port Arthur Stadium, giving up a season-high run total to the Border Cats in a 15-5 loss.

With this defeat, the Bucks have now dropped eight of their last 11 contests. For only the fifth time out of 19 tries, the Bucks lost when scoring the game’s first run, and, for just the seventh time this year, the Bucks squandered a lead en route to losing the game.

After Owen Ross doubled home Ethan Rossi to give Waterloo a 3-2 advantage with two outs in the top of the fourth, Thunder Bay went on to score 11 unanswered runs. The 13 hits Bucks pitchers allowed today tie a season-high from Sunday, June 22, against the Mankato MoonDogs.

Ross led all Bucks hitters with two knocks, including the team’s only extra-base hit of the day. Jake Slade, Marcus Heusohn, and Parker Sweeney all picked up one RBI as the only other Waterloo hitters who plated runs.

Heusohn walked twice in the contest for the 11th time this season, and Larry Edwards extended his on-base streak to 20 games with a single that kickstarted the eighth inning. Rossi led the club as the only Buck to score twice.

In his Northwoods League debut, Riley Fuller struck out a game-high four batters on his way to accepting a no decision.

The Bucks and Border Cats duke it out again tomorrow, Wednesday, July 2, at Port Arthur Stadium in the series finale with first pitch slated for 5:35 pm (CDT).
