Waterloo, IA – For the second day in a row on Friday, July 4, the Waterloo Bucks split a doubleheader with the Willmar Stingers at Riverfront Stadium.

The Bucks won the first contest 11-8, notching 14 hits in the game. Jake Bechtel led the charge by becoming the third Waterloo bat of the year both to collect four hits in a single contest and to produce a multi-home-run game. Out of all three players to accomplish these feats, he is the only one to achieve these honors in a seven-inning contest.

Bechtel homered in each of his first two at-bats and drove in a run in the fifth when he ripped a single in his final trip to the plate, giving Waterloo the lead on two separate occasions. Cole Smith and Caleb Parker finished the contest with three hits each, and Jake Slade roped two doubles while plating three.

Tyler Glowacki shut the door in the seventh to record his second save of the season.

With his run scored in the fifth, Marcus Heusohn now needs just one more run to tie the record for most career runs scored in Northwoods League history.

In game two, the Bucks lost to the Stingers 6-2. Willmar limited Waterloo’ offense to just seven hits in the contest. Out of those seven knocks, three went for doubles with Parker Sweeney, Slade and Smith all earning extra-base hits.

The Bucks continue their homestand tomorrow, Saturday, July 5, at 6:35 pm (CDT) at Riverfront Stadium when they will begin a three-game series against the La Crosse Loggers.
