La Crosse, WI – On Tuesday, July 8, the Waterloo Bucks attained several milestones as they routed the La Crosse Loggers 15-6 at Copeland Park.

In the third plate appearance of the game, Jake Bechtel barreled a double into the left field corner, scoring Cole Smith and Marcus Heusohn. When Heusohn crossed the plate, he broke the all-time runs record in the Northwoods League, scoring for the 138th time.

A couple batters later, Jimmy Nugent hit a two-run blast over the right field wall, putting the Bucks ahead 4-0 in the opening frame. The next inning, he stroked another two-run laser over the opposite-field wall to jump Waterloo ahead 7-1. He finished the contest with a perfect 5-for-5 line. No other Buck has recorded five hits in a single game this season. He finished the contest with a game-high six runs batted in.

In the top of the fourth, Larry Edwards a pushed a single through the gap into right field to collect his 100th career Northwoods League hit. He joins his McNeese University teammate Heusohn as one of only two active Bucks to attain that honor.

The 17 hits Waterloo banged out over the course of the contest set a season-high for the most knocks the Bucks have racked up in a single game all year.

Gannon Wentz earned his first NWL victory by throwing the most innings out of the bullpen for any Waterloo reliever in a single game all year, lasting five and two-thirds innings without allowing a single hit.

The series concludes tomorrow, Wednesday, July 9, as the Bucks play the Loggers again at Copeland Park at 6:35 pm (CDT).
