Waterloo, IA – For the first time since July 3, the Iowa Sweet Corn won their second consecutive contest, beating the Eau Claire Express 15-4 at Riverfront Stadium on Friday, July 18.

After the Sweet Corn fell behind 3-1 in the top of the fifth inning, Iowa rallied for a three-run bottom half which Cole Smith capped off with an RBI single into left to give the Sweet Corn the lead. From there, they never looked back. Three more runs the following frame and an eight-run seventh that tied the Iowa record for the largest offensive inning of the season sealed the deal.

With 7.0 IP and only three runs allowed, Aidan Elfering delivered his second quality start of the season to give the Sweet Corn 11 such performances on the year. The reliable righty has now posted five career quality starts for Iowa in his second campaign with the team, four of which occurred at Riverfront Stadium.

Jimmy Nugent, Parker Sweeney and Smith led the offensive charge for Iowa with a game-high three driven in each. Larry Edwards knocked in a pair with three walks and three stolen bases.

Those three steals now give Edwards 41 steals in 2025. With this achievement, he moves into third place for the most swipes in a single season by a Bucks player as he passes Kent Brown who stole 40 bags for Waterloo in 1996. Now, only Adam Boeve’s mark of 43 in 2002 and Lucas Moore’s record of 48 from last year stand in front of him.

Earning the first hit of the day for Iowa in the bottom of the third, Jake Slade extended his on-base streak to 21 games. He now sits just two contests behind Marcus Heusohn’s team-high for such stretches this season.

Heusohn’s RBI knock in the seventh gave him 99 runs driven in for his NWL career.

The series concludes tomorrow, Saturday, July 18, at Riverfront Stadium as the Express take on the Bucks at 6:35 pm (CDT).
