Thunder Bay, ON – The Border Cats bounced back and kept the Bucks bats at bay in game two of the doubleheader on Thursday night. Five players posted multi-hit games, including Braxton Templin, who knocked in three runs en route to a 9-5 victory to earn a split of the doubleheader.
After the Bucks jumped in front in game one, Thunder Bay got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth inning in the second game on Thursday. A double and a single brought up Braxton Templin who grounded out to plate a run to put the Border Cats ahead 1-0. One batter later, Dylan Snead pushed a single through to right field to bring in another run to make it 2-0. Back to the top of the order, Manny Alberto lasered a two-out double to left to extend the lead to 3-0.
In the top of the fifth inning, Waterloo answered back. Josh Kaplan singled in front of Bubby Dosztan-Campbell, who rocketed a double to left to score Kaplan from first and give the Bucks their first tally, 3-1.
In the home half of the inning, the Border Cats responded. A dropped third strike, a walk, and a hit by pitch loaded the bases. One batter later, Templin blooped a single to right to bring in two runs to grow the lead to 5-1.
In the bottom of the sixth, Thunder Bay scratched a run across. A single and a fielding error brought up Hayden Crites who dropped an RBI single to right to make it 6-1.
The Bucks answered in the top of the seventh with a Mycah Jordan two-run home run to left that was crushed to cut the lead in half 6-3.
That was as close as the Bucks got in the game as the Border Cats got three in the home half of the seventh to put the game out of reach and salvage the second game of the back end of the doubleheader, 9-5.
