La Crosse, WI – La Crosse used a six-run bottom of the first and a five-run bottom of the third to energize their offense, while Loggers’ starter went five strong innings with seven strikeouts and allowed one run to take game one of the series by a convincing 14-1 margin.
La Crosse jumped all over Waterloo in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, Savion Flowers singled, then Joey Senstock went opposite field and cleared the fence in right-center to catapult the Loggers on top 2-0. They didn’t stop there, as a double and a single put two on before Jose Lopez crushed a three-run shot to center to spring the lead to 5-0. The cherry on top was Mana Lau Kong pulling a solo home run to left to make it 6-0.
That was all Adam Hayes, the Loggers starter, needed Saturday night. The right-hander went five strong innings and punched out seven hitters en route to his first win of the year.
In the top of the second, Waterloo got a run back. Mitchell Iliff walked and later scored on a double play to put the Bucks on the board 6-1.
After that it was all Loggers as they scored eight unanswered runs in large part thanks to five straight hitters reaching and scoring in the bottom of the third as La Crosse took game one of the series with all phases of the game coming together for a 14-1 win.
With the loss, the Bucks go to 10-15 on the year and 1-5 on the road trip. The rubber match with the Loggers is penciled in for Sunday evening at 5:05 pm. Donovan Becerra is on the bump for La Crosse against Tanner Simmons for Waterloo.
