The Waterloo Bucks’ (8-3) Garrett McGowan (2-for-5, 2 R, 2B), Gabe Garcia (2-for-4, R, 2B, RBI) and Max Jung-Goldberg (2-for-4, RBI) each rapped multi-hit efforts in a 5-4 extra-innings loss to the Eau Claire Express (3-8) on Thursday evening. After a hot start with five of the first six Bucks batters reaching on base hits in the first, Waterloo would go on to have just one runner reach second base after the fifth—that being the extra-innings tiebreaker rule putting Cameron Repetti on base in the tenth.
Paul Steffensen (1-for-5, R, HR, RBI) led off the game with a solo home run clobbered to left, then McGowan and Garcia traded places with back-to-back doubles followed by a Jung-Goldberg RBI single, making it 3-0 Waterloo after one.
Eau Claire rallied for a run in the second, then McGowan opened the third with a single and hustled to third on a Garcia base hit. Jung-Goldberg bounced into a double play, plating McGowan.
The Express would go on to score two in the sixth, one in the eighth and one in the tenth on a walk-off wild pitch.
Harrison Durow threw 4.0 frames of one-run ball, scattering four hits and two walks while striking out five. Aaron Treloar added a scoreless seventh, earning a hold with one strikeout.
Waterloo and the Express close out their series on Friday with a 7:05 p.m. CST first pitch in Eau Claire.
