This week we are catching up with former Waterloo Bucks pitcher Brenden Stines. The Houston Astros drafted the Mishawaka, Indiana native in the 33rd round of the 2009 amateur entry draft. Since being drafted, Stines has been pitching for the Astros’ low class A minor league team, the Tri-City ValleyCats and the Class A Lexington Legends.
In 2009 Stines played in 24 games for the ValleyCats this past year, working exclusively out of the bullpen for 381/3 innings of work. The former Ball State Cardinal finished the season with three wins and no loses, 23 strikeouts, and a 4.93 earned run average.
In 2010 Stines pitched in 19 games for the Lexington Legends, coming exclusively out of the bull pen for 332/3 innings. Stines finished the season with 2 wins and 1 loss, he also collected 2 saves and stacked up 26 strikeouts and a 3.48 earned run average.
Stines pitched for the Waterloo Bucks during the summer of 2007. He made 10 appearances on the mound, all of which he served as the starting pitcher for the game. In his 511/3 innings of work, Stines had a record of two wins and five loses, and accumulated 41 strikeouts.
