Waterloo, IA – The Bucks were two hits shy of their season high and scored double digit runs yet again as they won the the five-game series with the Alexandria Beetles 3-2. They also won four out of the six games on this home stand including the first game win over the Rochester Honkers. With the win, Waterloo improves to 14-6, which marks their best 20-game start since 2001 when they started 14-6 as well. The Beetles fall to 7-12.
The Bucks scored early and often with two in the first and four in the second.
Kevin Kaczmarski continued his spectacular season with an RBI single in the bottom of the first to score this week’s Player of the Week, Peter Leonello. Leonello had reach on a walk and stole second. Borman then brought in the second run with an RBI single scoring Kaczmarski all the way from first base.
In the second, Waterloo batted around and it started with Freddy Villalobos. Villalobos began with a double and the next batter, Thomas Lindauer hit a bloop single over the head of the shortstop to put runners on the corners. Leonello then brought in Villalobos with a single to right-center field to make it 3-0. Riley Good followed him with an RBI single of his own to push across Lindauer. Austin Barrett walked to load them up for Borman. Again, Borman came through with a two-run double up the middle scoring Leonello and making the score 5-0. The bases were loaded again for Davis Hendrickson who walked in Good to put the home team up 6-0.
The visitors got one back in the top of the third with an RBI single.
A sacrifice fly by Lindauer scoring Hendrickson and a two-run double by Barrett put the hosts up by a score of 9-1 in the bottom of the seventh. Kaczmarski added run number 10 in the same inning with and RBI triple to left center.
The Beetles brought across three more in the top of the ninth and that is how the score would end up at 10-4.
Brock Hudgens earned his second win of the season by going five innings and giving up just one earned run on five hits while striking out four, walking four and consistently hitting 91 MPH on the radar gun. In relief, Rick Dodridge, Justin Grijalva, and Chris Dunn each pitched a shutout inning. Brett Andrzejewski finished by pitching an inning while giving up three runs, all earned.
