Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks, a member of the Northwoods League, have announced that renovated Riverfront Stadium will play host to the 2013 NJCAA Region XI Division II Baseball Tournament May 9th through the 13th. Eight teams from the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference will play in the five-day, 15-game event.

The opening game of the tournament is set to begin at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 9, followed by three more games that day. Four games are scheduled to be played on both Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11, while two games are set to be played on Sunday, May 12. The tournament championship will be played at 3:00 pm on Sunday, or at 12:00 pm on Monday, May 13, if a double-elimination game is required.

"It’s a beautiful ballpark and our coaches and student-athletes are excited to be back,” said Nic Scandrett, ICCAC Assistant Commissioner. “Our teams play a high level of baseball and it’s nice to play in a venue built to showcase that. It will be a fun week for everybody.”

Ticket pricing is as follows: $7 for adults; $4 for students (includes college). Fans can go to the ICCAC website at www.iccac.org to visit the official tournament page which has the tournament bracket as well as live coverage of all of the games.  “For the third consecutive year, the Bucks are thrilled to bring this tournament to Riverfront Stadium,” said Bucks general manager Dan Corbin. “Our ballpark is a venue that looks to host events like this, and we are happy to partner with the ICCAC to be able to bring a highly competitive tournament to the Cedar Valley which makes a great impact on the local economy and quality of life.”

The Bucks have ties to many of the ICCAC team’s coaching staffs. Former Bucks infielder Jake Astor (2010) is currently an Assistant Coach at Des Moines Area Community College, who is ranked second in the latest NJCAA Poll. Former Bucks manager Pete Lauritson (2008-09) is an Assistant Coach at North Iowa Area Community College, ranked 19th in the NJCAA Poll. Former Bucks manager Jason Nell (2010-11) is the Head Coach at Iowa Lakes Community College. And former Bucks infielder Todd Rima (1995) is the Head Coach at Kirkwood Community College.  

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) was founded in 1996, and is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).  They are the governing body of 18 member schools in Iowa and 21 men’s and women’s sports held in the fall, winter, and spring seasons. The ICCAC has been committed to the enhancement of their young adults’ educational experience, as well as the development of quality relationships between their schools and the communities of Iowa. Ever since their founding, they have strove to create a highly competitive atmosphere while promoting good sportsmanship and desirable characteristics, such as leadership and teamwork, that will create the best possible atmosphere for their players, coaches, fans, and the communities in which they are involved.
