La Crosse, WI – The Waterloo Bucks lost their second straight game with a 5-2 defeat to the La Crosse Loggers at Copeland Park on Thursday, July 31.

With the Bucks trailing 3-2 and two outs in the top of the seventh, Larry Edwards swiped second base for his second steal of the day. The stolen base marked number 55 for number five to tie Chandler Simpson of the 2021 Fond du Lac Dock Spiders for the Northwoods League single-season record.

Marcus Heusohn roped a base hit up the middle to open the scoring in the top of the first as he plated Edwards to put Waterloo in front 1-0. For Edwards, the run gave him 100 for his NWL career.

After falling behind 2-1 in the bottom of the third, the Bucks responded with a Caleb Parker RBI groundout to first that scored Cole Smith. The Bucks would not scratch across another run for the remainder of the contest.

Harrison Dubois, Brandon Rice and Vincent Cicolello all dealt one and two-thirds scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Rice has now gone nine and two-thirds straight innings without allowing an earned run.

Edwards and Smith both singled and walked as the lone Waterloo bats to reach base safely twice. Jimmy Nugent logged the only other hit with a single in the fifth.

After today’s performance, Edwards has now reached base in 24 consecutive contests. Now, he needs only two more games to tie Jake Slade for Waterloo’s longest on-base streak of the season at 26.

Tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 1, the Bucks play the Loggers again as the team takes on its alternate identity as the Iowa Sweet Corn for the final time this season. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm (CDT).
