
Fond Du Lac, WI – The Bucks scored three runs in the top of the ninth before notching the game-winning run in the top of the tenth inning of game two in Fond Du Lac to sweep the Dock Spiders 7-6 Monday afternoon.
After trailing all day in game one on Sunday, Fond Du Lac grabbed an early lead in the bottom of the first inning Monday afternoon. Two singles started the frame, then a wild pitch allowed a run to score to make it 1-0 Dock Spiders. Later in the at-bat, Tyler Neises drilled an RBI base hit to center to take a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth inning, Waterloo got on the board with an MJ Sweeney solo home run to right to slice the lead to 2-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Fond Du Lac got that run back. Two walks began the inning before a hit by pitch loaded the bases. Now with two outs, Quincy Mazeke poked a single to left to regain the two-run lead, 3-1.
In the top of the sixth, a one-out Caleb Parker double for Waterloo scored on a Jake Slade two-bagger to cut the lead to 3-2.
In the top of the eighth, the Bucks evened things up. Zach Davis reached on an error, then moved up on a sacrifice bunt. With two out, Chase Porter smacked a single to left to level the score at 3-3.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Dock Spiders took the lead back. A Joey Monetti hit by pitch kicked things off, then a single moved the run into scoring position. Carter Kelly chopped a single through the right side to plate Monetti and take a 4-3 lead into the ninth.
In the top of the ninth, the Bucks rallied back. Collin Brightwell and Tayvon Homolar worked walks and moved up on steals. One batter later, Larry Edwards licked a single to left to plate Brightwell to tie the game at 4-4. A fielder’s choice allowed a run to score to give Waterloo a 5-4 lead. On the play, runners moved up to the corners for Parker who lifted a sac fly to left to nab a 6-4 lead.
In the home half of the inning, the Dock Spiders fought back. Two walks and a single loaded the bases before Thomas Googins singled to center to chip the lead to 6-5. One batter later, Joey Arend walked to push the tying run across 6-6 and force the game into extras.
In the tenth, the extra-inning runner moved up on a sac bunt, then scored on a Caleb Seibers RBI single to give Waterloo a 7-6 advantage before Brian Lockhart slammed the door shut on a Spider rally in the last of the tenth to lock down the win and sweep Fond Du Lac.
With the victory, the Bucks go to an even 22-22 on the year and 7-2 in the second half. The Bucks head home to host Kenosha on Tuesday night. First pitch is penciled in for 6:35 pm. Cade Nolan takes the rock for the Bucks. The Kingfish starter is TBD.
