EAU CLAIRE, WI The Eau Claire Express completed a two-game sweep with a 7-1 victory over the Waterloo Bucks on Sunday evening at Carson Park. The Express scored the last seven runs and used their second straight good start by a pitcher to come away with the win.
Waterloo was limited to only four hits in the loss.
The Bucks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning as they manufactured a run to fullest extent of that term. Steven Goldstein singled then stole second base. He would then steal third base by taking advantage of a lolipop throw from the catcher back to the pitcher, which allowed him to score on a Patrick Fiala sacrifice fly out to right field.
However, that would be the only run Waterloo would get off starter Jordan Ruckman who went six innings and was followed by Aaron Strashoim who threw three scoreless innings.
Eau Claire rattled off seven unanswered runs starting in the second inning. Ian Doughty brought in a run with an infield ground out and Mike Barajas gave the Express the lead with a RBI single to right field. Waterloo's David Kerian actually cut down a third run at the plate with a strike home and seemed to have stopped the Express momentum but that wasn't the case.
Eau Claire continued to score in the third inning off starter Aaron Myers with three more runs. Tyler Hermann had a RBI double followed by RBI singles from Mike Porcaro and Justin Jaquish expanded the lead to 5-1.
Mario Leon replaced Myers in the fourth inning and yielded a run in the fourth inning off a RBI single by Brian Sicher but would settle down to have a quick fifth and sixth inning.
Eau Claire finished the scoring in the seventh inning by loading the bases and getting a run on an infield error to make the final score 7-1.
