Eau Claire, Wis. – The Eau Claire Express added three more bats to the roster on Thursday with the addition of infielder Troy Beilsmith, and outfielders Connor Laspina and Brock Burton.
Troy Beilsmith | INF | 6’0” | 170 | Jr. | Weldon Spring, MO | University of Evansville |
Troy Beilsmith played in four games for the Express in 2018 before leaving the team midseason because of injury. In that time the Missouri native batted .385 with two runs, 2 RBIs, and two doubles. An outfielder for the Evansville Purple Aces, Beilsmith is another addition that will provide multiple lineup options for field manager Dale Varsho. Beilsmith has led Evansville in batting each of the last two seasons with a .335 average in 2018 and .310 in 2017. Additionally, in 2018 Beilsmith held a .564 slugging percentage, blasted seven home runs, grabbed 18 doubles and gained All-Missouri Valley Conference Second Team honors.
Connor Laspina | OF | 6’0” | 170 | So. | Mahwah, NJ | Flagler University |
Connor Laspina returns to Eau Claire for his first full season with the Express after playing out the final five games of the 2018 season with the team. Laspina, a Mahwah, New Jersey native, plays his college ball for Flagler University in St. Augustin, Florida where he is a versatile piece for the Saints. In his two seasons with Flagler, Laspina has appeared in 34 games as both an infielder and outfielder, starting 20 contests and is currently batting .235 through the first 13 games of 2019. Laspina attended the same high school as Express teammate David LaManna, Bergen Catholic HS, where he was a four-time baseball letter winner and was a part of two state championship wrestling teams.
Brock Burton | OF | 6’1” | 195 | So. | Phoenix, AZ | Grand Canyon University |
A sophomore from Grand Canyon University, Brock Burton will provide the Express with depth in the outfield. In 2018, Burton started 16 games for the Lopes in his first season on the team, good for the second-most starts among freshman for GCU. Burton started his collegiate career on a tear, recording hits in his first four career games back in 2018. So far in 2019, Burton has appeared in six games and is currently batting .250. A Desert Vista High School graduate, Burton held a .405 batting average as a senior with 5 home runs and 25 RBIs.
With the addition of Beilsmith, Laspina and Burton, the Express 2019 roster has grown to seven. Eau Claire will start their season with a four-game road trip to Bismarck before opening their home schedule against the Duluth Huskies, June 1st, at Carson Park
