(Rochester, Minn) – The Rochester Honkers knocked off the Manakto MoonDogs in game two of the double header, 9-5 The Honkers scored five runs in the bottom of the third, behind RBI singles from Christopher Scalisi (Redlands) and Keaton Weisz (Auburn) to help push them to the win.

In the first, the MoonDogs took a 2-0 lead, but the Honkers came back and scored two of their own to tie it. Miles Lewis (North Dakota) got an RBI on a fielder’s choice that scored Bryce Marquardt (Bethel University). Troy Traxler (Minnesota) then scored on a wild pitch to tie things up at two.

In the third, Scalisi hit a two-RBI single to give the Honkers a 6-2 lead. Weisz singled home another run to give the Honkers a 7-2 lead.

The Honkers added another run in the fourth when Alex Fitchett (Hawaii) hit a double to score Lewis. In the fifth, Scalisi hit another RBI single to give the Honkers a 9-2 lead.

Houston Glad (1-0) (NE Oklahoma JC) got the start and the win for the Honkers in game two; he went six inning, allowed five hits, two runs, walked five and struck out four. The MoonDogs scored three runs in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough as the Honkers secured the victory.

Adam Rutz (0-1) (SW Christian U) got the start for the MoonDogs and the loss; he went two innings, gave up two hits, four earned runs, walked four and struck out two.

Marquardt, Traxler and Lewis all scored two runs for the Honkers, while Jackson Thoreson (St. Mary’s) and Scalisi went 2 for 3. Scalisi added a team-high three RBI.

With the win, the Honkers move to 4-6 and the MoonDogs fall to 6-4.

The Honkers will hit the road and travel to St. Cloud to battle the Rox on Friday and Saturday. Friday’s first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at Joe Faber Field; while Saturday is set for 6:05 p.m. Rochester will travel to La Crosse to take on the Loggers Sunday night, with a first pitch set for 5:05 p.m. The Honkers will face the same Loggers team at Mayo Field Monday night, which is MN Bankers Association Night; first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m!
