(Rochester, Minn.) – The Rochester Honkers fell to the Waterloo Bucks 3-2 in the finishing of a game started on June 14. The game was suspended after eight innings of play.

The Bucks started off the scoring in the third inning, when they scored two runs on a Honkers’ error. The Honkers trailed all the way to the top of the seventh, then Jacob Thomas (UC Davis) doubled to left field, which put Joey Czarske (Cal State Northridge) on third. Then an error by the Bucks in left field allowed Czarske to score.

Keaton Weisz (Auburn) hit a single in the next at-bat to tie the game at 2.

Zach Sanders (New Mexico Junior College) stole second base, advanced to third on a balk and scored on a groundball put out in the bottom of the eighth to give the Bucks a 3-2 lead before play was suspended due curfew after eight innings of play.

Isaac Friesen (Hawaii) got the start for the Honkers; he pitched seven innings, allowed five hits, two unearned runs, walked three and struck out one. Jesse Ellefson (Montevallo) pitched the eighth inning for the Honkers and took the loss; he allowed one run, walked one and struck out one.

Steven Baker (Chico State) got the start for the Bucks; he went three innings, allowed two hits, no runs, walked two and struck out three. Derek Hendrixson (Wright State) pitched three innings of relief for the Bucks, and got the win. He allowed five hits, two runs, one of which was earned, and struck out four.

Weisz was 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead the Honkers offense, while Brody Weiss (Riverside City College) went 2 for 4 to lead the Bucks.

The Honkers and Bucks will play a full, nine-inning game starting at 7:05 p.m. tonight. The Honkers are back at home Tuesday to play the Waterloo Bucks on TV Tuesday presented by Sam’s Club! One lucky fan will have a chance to win a 40” TV from Sam’s Club! First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. and gates open at 6:00! The Honkers will then go to Willmar to battle the Stingers on Wednesday and Thursday. Both games are set for 7:05 p.m.
