ROCHESTER, MINN – The Rochester Honkers were unable to complete the sweep as they lost to the Willmar Stingers 10-7 in 11 innings Friday night at Mayo Field.

For the second straight game the Honkers fell behind early. Joey Walls (Long Beach State) blasted a two run shot, his sixth of the summer, to give Willmar a 2-0 lead in the third. The Honkers quickly responded getting one of those runs back in the bottom half when Dario Gomez (Nevada) drove in a run with an RBI single.

The scoring halted until the sixth when the Stingers took a 4-1 lead. They scored a pair of runs on a wild pitch and Scott Anderson (Point Loma Nazarene) RBI double. Rochester, once again, responded in the bottom half getting both those runs back on an error and bases loaded walk to Theo Hardy (San Jose State).

The score remained 4-3 Willmar entering the bottom of the ninth. The first two Honkers were retired but then the Honkers rallied. Dario Gomez singled, Will Asby (Sac City) walked and Alex Pimentel (UNLV) tied the game with an RBI single. For the second time in as many games, the Honkers and Stingers entered extra innings.

Neither team scored in the tenth but Willmar broke out in a big way in the 11th. They scored six runs on four hits, the big one being another homer off the bat of Joey Walls. He second of the night was a three run shot, making it a 10-4 Stinger lead. The Honkers rallied for three runs in the bottom half but came up short as Joe Longo (Michigan) struck out with the bases loaded to end it.

With the loss the Honkers fall to 7-5 in the second half and are once again two games back of first place. Rochester travels to Eau Claire on Saturday to take on the Express. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
