WATERLOO – A three-run fifth inning outburst by visiting Alexandria proved to be too much for the home-standing Waterloo Bucks Wednesday night.

The Beetles (19-14) broke up a 1-1 tie with the roll. A two-run single from first baseman Keith Castillo (USC) that landed just out of the reach of a hustling attempt from second baseman Zach McCool (Iowa) was the key hit in the inning.

Waterloo (10-22) was guided on offense by singles from McCool, shortstop Michael Giller (Illinois), third baseman Troy White (Northern Illinois), and designated hitter Christian Griffiths (Stanford). Alexandria starting pitcher Bryce Uhrig (Pepperdine) went seven innings and allowed just one hit while striking out four.

Waterloo resumes its current six-game home stand Thursday at 7:05 p.m. against the Beetles. It’s Wolfe Realtors Thirsty Thursday powered by Wolfe Realtors and KCRR, 97.7 FM, Waterloo. Regular-sized beer draws are two dollars and regular sized fountain sodas are one dollar. Tickets are available at Wolfe Realtors and can be won by listening to KCRR-FM tomorrow.

AABLE Pest Control is also involved in Thursday’s game sponsorship. Tickets are available at the main office and prizes will be awarded from AABLE on Beetle Extermination Night.
