Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks, members of the Northwoods League, have announced their planned post-game Fireworks Extravaganza on Friday, August 3 has been cancelled due to the continued dry weather and extreme heat in the Cedar Valley.  Waterloo Chief of Fire Services Pat Treloar informed the team of the Fire Department’s decision on Tuesday afternoon.

“As disappointed as the organization is about the cancellation of Friday’s fireworks show, we totally understand the reasons that the Fire Department issued the cessation,” said Bucks General Manager Dan Corbin. “Safety has to be our biggest concern with the dryness. This summer’s drought has made it so that little effort is needed to start a fire. We still encourage fans to come out and cheer on the Bucks as we make a run for the North Division Second Half title versus our rivals, the Rochester Honkers.”

The months of May through July have produced below normal precipitation in the Cedar Valley. According to http://droughtmonitor.unl.edu, Black Hawk County is currently in an Extreme Drought, causing the City of Waterloo to disallow fireworks within the city limits at this time.

The Bucks’ final Fireworks Extravaganza of the season, planned for Saturday, August 11, is still scheduled to occur. That show will take place after the Bucks face the Mankato MoonDogs for a 6:35 pm start.

The Bucks will start a three-game homestand versus Rochester on Thursday, August 2. First pitch for all three games is slated for 6:35 pm. Thursday’s game is a Double Buck Night powered by Casey’s General Store and Cool 105.7. $2 admission coupons are available from Casey’s and Cool 105.7. There will be $2 beer, $2 hot dogs, $2 popcorn, and $1 fountain soda available all game long.
