Bucks Sign Catcher
Waterloo, Iowa – The Waterloo Bucks have announced that catcher/infielder Zack Soria has signed to play with Waterloo for the 2014 season. Soria, a freshman at Mesa Community College, joins University of Evansville’s Kyle Pollock as the catchers for the team’s 20th season.
This season for the Thunderbirds, Soria is hitting .321 in 59 games. The 5’10”, 190-pounder is slugging .405 with eight home runs.
“Zach was highly recruited out of high school and we’re thrilled to sign him to play in Waterloo,” said Bucks General Manager Dan Corbin. “He has some pop to his bat and he’s a quality receiver of the ball behind the plate. He’ll mainly see time as a catcher, but we can throw him out at second base if needed.”
Soria originally attended the University of Louisville, where he redshirted during his freshman season. After the 2013 season, the Chicago, Illinois native transferred to Mesa CC. Soria will play at Illinois State University in 2015.
Born October 29, 1993, Soria attended St. Rita High School where he was named to the Louisville Slugger All-American, All-Conference, and All-Area teams as a senior. Zack is the son of Bob and Debbie Soria.
The Bucks will open the 2014 season on the road versus the Rochester Honkers on May 27, but return to Waterloo for their home opener versus Rochester on May 28.
