Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks have announced that right-handed pitcher Sean Martens has signed to play with Waterloo for the 2015 season. Martens, a freshman at Central Michigan University, is the seventh player to be named to the Bucks’ roster for the team’s 21^st season.

Martens played prep baseball at Ortonville Brandon High School where he was named to the Division I All-State first team as a senior. The 6’0”, 165-pounder was also named to the Oakland County Dream Team and was honored as the Oakland County MVP.

“Sean was highly recommended to us by former Waterloo pitching coach Jeff Opalewski, who is the associate head coach at Central Michigan,” said Bucks general manager Dan Corbin. “When Sean is on the bump for us, he’ll remind Bucks fans of former pitcher Zach Cooper, who played with us in 2009 and 2010 and was eventually drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 15^th round in 2012. The Chippewas have sent some of their best players our way for quite some time now and we’re excited to continue that relationship.”

Born April 9, 1996, Martens is a native of Clarkston, Michigan. Sean is the son of Wendell and Kass Martens.

The Bucks, the winningest team in all of summer-collegiate baseball over the past two years, will open the 2015 season on the road versus the Alexandria Blue Anchors on May 26, but return to Waterloo for their home opener versus the Mankato MoonDogs on May 28.
