LA CROSSE, WI- A two-run triple by Deion Thompson in the top of the eighth boosted the Waterloo Bucks (3-2) to victory in a back and forth game over the La Crosse Loggers (1-4) 6-4 on Saturday (June 3).

It was a pitching dual early on between Derik Beauprez and Zachary Patterson. La Crosse struck first in the bottom of the third on a wild pitch. After three innings of work, Patterson was replaced by Zach Siggelkow who tossed 2.2 innings.

Waterloo answered on a Jay Schuyler RBI single in the top of the fifth to tie things up. The Bucks extended their lead to 3-1 on an RBI single by Colin Kreiter. A batter later, Kreiter stole second base drawing a throw up the middle allowing Korry Howell to cruise in.

The Loggers clawed their way back anf eventually took the lead back 4-3 on a fielding error at third base in the bottom of the seventh. Matthew Perea (1-0) did his best to limit the damage for the Bucks out the bullpen.

Thompson crushed a two-run triple off of the left center field wall to put the Bucks back in front 5-4 in the top of the eighth inning. Andrew Owen (0-1) pitched three innings in relief and was effective besides letting up the go-ahead triple.

Brandon Downey (1) entered the game in the eighth and completed a six-out save. For good measure in the top of the ninth, Josh Elvir addded an RBI single on a bouncing ball up the middle.

The series finale is tomorrow, Sunday June 4 at Copeland Park with a 5:05 p.m. first pitch.
