Waterloo, Iowa – The Northwoods League has announced that Waterloo Bucks first baseman Joe Genord will be a participant in the 2017 NWL All-Star Game Home Run Derby.  Genord, a sophomore from the University of South Florida, will take part in the All-Star Game festivities that will occur on Tuesday, July 18 at Athletic Park in Wausau, Wisconsin.

Originally from Lake Worth, FL, Genord is hitting .262 with 18 RBI, a .534 slugging percentage, and a team-leading 7 home runs for Waterloo, which is the second most in the North Division.  On June 23 versus the Duluth Huskies, Genord hit 3 home runs with 7 RBI, going 4-for-5 on the day with 4 runs scored.

The Home Run Derby will begin at 5:00 pm on the 18th.  Nine participants, who were announced by the NWL earlier today, from both the South and North Divisions have been chosen for the event which will feature a nine-inning competition between the two sides.

 

The format for the Home Run Derby is below:

1. There will be 9 innings with each player having one half inning.

2. Away team (North) player bats first in the top of the inning, and home team player next (South) in the bottom half of the inning.

3. Each player will have one half inning at bat that will consist of 6 outs.

4. The player with the most home runs at the end of the 9 innings, will be the Home Run Derby Winner.

5. The team (North or South) with the most home runs will be announced as the winner of the team competition.

 

The Bucks continue a three-game road trip tonight, playing the Eau Claire Express at 6:35 pm.  Waterloo returns home on Friday, July 14 where they will host the Rochester Honkers with first pitch slated for 6:35 pm.  All games can be heard online at www.waterloobucks.com with play-by-play announcer Danny Frey.  Tickets for Friday’s game may be purchased online at www.waterloobucks.com or by calling the Bucks’ Ticket Line at (319) 232-5633.
