The Waterloo Bucks (22-19, 2-3) lost 8-3 to the La Crosse Loggers (21-20, 4-1) on Sunday afternoon.

Down 1-0 heading into the bottom of the second, Alonzo Rubalcaba (0-3, BB, R, SB) drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a Trey Leonard sacrifice bunt. Rubalcaba stole third, then scored on a Matt Campos (3-4, 2 R, 2B, RBI) infield single. A five-run La Crosse fourth broke the tie. Campos doubled with two out in the home half and crossed home on a Caleb LittleJim (1-2, 2 BB) RBI single, trimming the deficit to 6-2.

La Crosse added a run in the seventh and the ninth. Singles from Campos and pinch-hitter Dylan Phillips followed by a walk to LittleJim loaded the bases for Waterloo in the ninth inning. Tony Jenkins brought in the Bucks’ final tally with a run-scoring fielder’s choice.

Will Christophersen shined in relief, allowing one unearned run over 3.0 innings of one-hit, one walk baseball while striking out three. The Michigan State righthander piled up 11 whiffs on just 37 pitches.

Bennett Hostetler (2-3, BB) added a multi-hit game, joining Campos’ three-hit afternoon.

The Bucks and the Loggers close the Waterloo half of the four-game home-and-home series on Monday at 6:35 p.m.
