The Waterloo Bucks (29-30, 9-14) saw a 6-0 lead after two evaporate in an eventual 10-7 loss to the Duluth Huskies (27-32, 14-9) in game one of Monday’s doubleheader.

Patrick Ferguson (1-5, R, HR, RBI) hammered a solo home run in the bottom of the first to open the scoring. Five Bucks runs scored in the second, with back-to-back RBI singles from Bryce Wooldridge (2-2, BB, R, RBI, SB) and Jake Christianson (1-4, R, RBI) preceding a run scoring double off of Tony Jenkins’ (2-3, 2 BB, R, 2B, RBI) bat and a two-run double by Kyler Arenado (1-4, BB, 2B, 2 RBI).

The Bucks allowed six runs in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Down 9-6 in the seventh, Mike Nyisztor (3-4, BB, 2 R, 2B) led off with a single and later scored on a Bennett Hostetler (0-1, RBI, SF) pinch-hit sacrifice fly.

Jimmy Smiley impressed in relief, tossing 3.0 scoreless innings of three-hit ball while striking out two.

Waterloo and Duluth wrap up their series with Monday’s nightcap at 6:35 p.m.
