The Waterloo Bucks fell in their first extra innings game of the year 2-1 to the Willmar Stingers in ten.
The Bucks scored first with a solo homer from Patrick Ferguson to put them up 1-0. Waterloo’s pitching staff held Willmar scoreless until the top of the eighth with two outs. Stingers first baseman Kyle Manzardo launched a solo shot of his own to right center that tied the game.
Neither team tallied a run in the ninth setting the stage for tenth. Jaxon Hallmark flied out to centerfielder Xane Washington, driving home Harrison Schnurbusch to give Willmar a 2-1 lead. In the bottom half, the Bucks lined into a double-play, but got a pair of two-out singles to stretch the game. Then, Levi Usher struck out to end the ballgame and give Willmar the 2-1 win.
Jonathan Brand picked up the win with 3.1 innings scoreless out of the bullpen. Zach Button took the loss for Waterloo. Tanner Brown earned the one-out save for Willmar. These two teams will square off again tomorrow night at 6:35 at Cost Cutters at Riverfront Stadium.
