Waterloo headed to St. Cloud for the first time this season after a loss to Mankato a night ago. In a back and forth affair, Waterloo pinch-hitter Peyton Williams launched a ball over the wall in right field for a go-ahead two-run homer in the top of the ninth.
The Rox struck first with an RBI groundout from Garrett Delano. Waterloo countered with a pair in the top of the fourth on a couple of errors and a ground-rule double from John Wuthrich. Nick Marinconz plated a run for St. Cloud in the bottom half to tie it.
In the fifth, the Bucks got an RBI knock from Xane Washington to left, but Rox third baseman Jordan Barth hit a home run in the bottom of the fifth to tie it up at 3-3.
The Rox took a late lead with an RBI base hit up the middle from Sam Ireland to go up 4-3. However, after a pinch hit single and stolen bag from Levi Usher. The Bucks put in Drew Bianco to pinch hit for Jayden Kiernan. Bianco hit a deep fly ball to left that was tracked down by Delano in left, but allowed Usher to get to third. Peyton Williams was the third pinch hitter of the inning and he crushed a ball over the fence in right for a go-ahead two-run home run in the top of ninth to put Waterloo up 5-4.
The Bucks would sit the Rox down in order to win the game. The winning pitcher was Christian McGowan of Waterloo, who picked up his second win. Blake Stelzer took the loss with his blown save in the ninth. Waterloo faces off with St. Cloud one more time tomorrow night at 7:05 before they head back home for two off-days.
