Duncan Davitt tied a collegiate career-high with 10 strikeouts over 6.0 innings of brilliant baseball but the Waterloo Bucks (23-16, 0-4) couldn’t solve the St. Cloud Rox (28-9, 4-1) pitching as they were shut out 3-0 on Saturday evening. Davitt scattered four hits and four walks while allowing just one unearned run, piling up 22 whiffs on 106 pitches as all four pitches were working for the righthander. Waterloo had just one runner reach third base, occurring with two outs in the fifth. None of St. Cloud’s three runs were earned as two errors in the ninth led to a two-run frame.
Max Jung-Goldberg (3-for-4, SB) had a three-hit night while Garrett McGowan (1-for-4), Liam Critchett (1-for-3, BB) and Dalton Chandler (1-for-3) each added singles.
Aaron Treloar struck out the side in the seventh, working around a pair of walks. Michael Mitchell finished things out, firing the final 2.0 frames and striking out three with just one hit allowed. Mitchell’s electric stuff was on full display, working at a 27.3% whiff rate with nine swinging strikes on 33 pitches.
The Bucks will try to halt their six-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 p.m. as they go for a home split against the Rox.
