Thunder Bay, ON – After a crazy three-game day, the Bucks came out on top winning Games Two and Three over the Thunder Bay Border Cats and collecting their 1000th franchise victory after a crazy day of baseball. The Bucks clinched their 1000th career victory in a Game Two victory.
Game #1: The first game was originally supposed to be played on June 18th, but was postponed after the top of the third inning with the Border Cats winning by a score of 1-0. When the game resumed in the bottom of the third, the Border Cats jumped out to an even bigger lead by scoring five in that half-inning and four more in the bottom of the fourth. In the top of the eighth inning, four runs scored with two coming from a two-run single off the bat of infielder Kooper Schulte. The Bucks added one final run in the ninth but were held out and lost 10-6.
Game #2: Game two was set to be a seven-inning ball game, but ended up going to an extra eight inning. The Bucks scored in five of the eight innings in game two and started with a first run their first time up and then two runs in the second with one of them coming as a solo shot from outfielder Larry Edwards Jr, his third of the season. Over those two first innings, the Border Cats added one of their own. From the third to the fifth innings, the Bucks only added one more in the third with an RBI double from infielder Kooper Schulte. The Border Cats added four runs and Thunder Bay had the lead until the sixth when the Bucks tied the game at five apiece. The next time either team plated a run across it was the Bucks and an RBI double from catcher Zach Mazoch. The Bucks end up winning the game 6-5 and gathering the 1000th organization victory.
Game #3: Waterloo went into the game one game behind the Border Cats for first, but would end the day being tied in first after a 4-2 victory. All four runs for the Bucks came in the first two innings after three runs in the first, two coming from infielder Evan Morrison’s single and then a fielder choice in the second from Brennan Hudson. A great outing from left-hander Ryan Gold who went six innings of no-run baseball before the Border Cats added two runs of their own. Closer Sam Skarich closed out the game, like he did earlier in the day and the Bucks won their second game of the day.
The Bucks have one final game against Thunder Bay tomorrow, June 20th, with the first pitch from Port Arthur Stadium set for 6:35 PM.
