Thunder Bay, ON – The Waterloo Bucks fell to the Thunder Bay Border Cats 9-4 at Port Arthur Stadium in the second game of their road trip on Thursday, June 19.

Waterloo collected only five hits for the entire contest, but two of those went for extra bases — a Jimmy Nugent RBI double in the fourth and a Jake Bechtel triple in the ninth. Ian Halverson and Larry Edwards drove in the only other runs of the game for the Bucks. Along with Nugent and Bechtel, Edwards, Halverson and Bennett Fryman picked up the only other three hits for Waterloo.

Brody Leyboldt pitched one and one-third scoreless innings out of the bullpen, surrendering one hit and no runs while striking out two. After this appearance, Leyboldt has now recorded at least one punchout in all seven of his games so far this season.

In his 150th career Northwoods League game, Marcus Heusohn reached with a walk and eventually scored a run in the fourth frame, extending his on-base streak to 20 games. With this base on balls, Heusohn has now walked at least once in each of his last seven games, drawing ten free passes during that stretch. Bechtel, Fryman and Nugent scored the only other runs of the day for Waterloo.

Luke Riggs threw multiple innings out of the bullpen for the fourth time this year, allowing two hits, a walk and one earned run.

The Bucks meet the Border Cats again tomorrow at Port Arthur Stadium where Alex Alberico will take on John McDonald at 5:35 pm (CDT) for the final game of their road trip before returning home for a four-game homestand.
