Waterloo, IA – Caleb Seibers is the walk-off hero for Waterloo as he put an RBI single past the right fielder to give the Bucks their first win of the 2026 season by a score of 8-7. 

After getting the scoring started on Monday, Thunder Bay got on the board first on Tuesday night. After Owen Ralph worked a walk, Alex Kean ripped a two-out double to left that plated Ralph to put the Border Cats up 1-0. 

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Waterloo answered with a fielder’s choice RBI off the bat of Caleb Parker to knot it at 1-1. 

In the top of the sixth, Thunder Bay took the lead right back. Dante Smith knocked a leadoff base hit off the pitcher, then came around to score on Colin Fisher’s RBI single to give the lead back to the Border Cats, 2-1. 

In the home half of the sixth, Mitchell Iliff tied the game again. He crushed an opposite-field home run to left to even the tally at 2-2. 

In the top of the seventh, Thunder Bay ripped the lead away. With the bases loaded and one out, Smith slapped a double down the line in left to bring home a pair and make it 4-2 Border Cats. A fielding error brought another in to make it 5-2. One batter later, Jacob Poletto grounded out to allow one more to score and extend the Cats lead to 6-2. 

In the last of the seventh, Kendric Sorgius and Drew Charney got hit by a pitch, then both came around to score. Sorgius on a wild pitch, then Zach Davis singled to plate Charney to chip away at the lead, 6-4. 

In the top of the eighth, Thunder Bay got a run back. A two-out walk scored on an Alex Kean booming single off the wall in left to grow the lead to 7-4. 

In the bottom of the ninth, the Bucks battled. After two singles, Sorgius followed with one of his own to score a run and make it 7-5. Then, a Davis fielder’s choice brought in another to cut the lead to one, 7-6. Lastly, Cole Patterson drilled an RBI single to right to tie the game at seven apiece. Waterloo would win it in the tenth off the bat of Caleb Seibers. He deposited a base hit into right to score the extra-inning runner, Iliff, and walk it off for the Bucks, 8-7. 

With their first win of 2026, Waterloo goes to 1-1, and earns a series split with Thunder Bay. The Bucks welcome in the Duluth Huskies to kick off a two-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35. Both starters are TBD.
