Waterloo, IA – Keith Eusebio twirls eight innings of efficient baseball in his third starting bid of the season to earn his first win of the year. Joe Forbes blasted a two-run home run and had four RBIs while Caleb Rhodes went 2-4 with three RBI en route to a 9-2 win as Rockford sweeps Waterloo.
Keith Eusebio started on the mound for Rockford, and the right-hander was dominant from the jump. The two-way player took the mound with confidence and went 8 innings and let up a pair of runs, with only one of them being earned. He struck out three hitters and walked just two on the way to his first win of the year.
After scoring first in game one, the Rivets jumped in front Sunday afternoon to give their starter some run support. After Jack Sheri was hit by a pitch, Caleb Rhodes drove him in with an infield single to roll Rockford ahead 1-0.
In the top of the second, Rivets pulled away. After two runners reached, Rhodes blasted a double off the wall in left to plate both runs to spring the lead to 3-0. One batter later, Tommy Townsend ripped a single to right to bring in Rhodes to make it 4-0.
In the bottom of the third inning, Waterloo got on the board. Kendric Sorgius singled, then moved up to second, where Zach Davis singled to score Sorgius to chisel the lead to 4-1.
In the top of the fourth, Rockford responded. After loading the bases, Joe Forbes came up with two outs and looped a single to left to score a pair and grow the lead to 6-1.
After Waterloo scored in the bottom of the sixth, Joe Forbes put the exclamation mark on the game with a two-run moonshot to left to make it 9-2, the score that would be the final in a Rockford sweep of Waterloo.
With the loss, the Bucks go to 6-8 on the season and split the season series with the Rivets 2-2. Waterloo has time off before their next game Thursday night against Willmar. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm from Riverfront Stadium. Both starters are TBD.
