Waterloo, IA – Rochester pounded four home runs in the ballgame and rode their starter, Jaylen Cream, who went seven scoreless innings and struck out six to earn the win in a 12-0 victory.
The Honkers came out relentlessly in the top of the first inning. Sam Harry doubled to lead off the game, then scored on Matt McDonald’s RBI double that gave Rochester the lead 1-0. After a walk and single loaded the bases, Cameron Sewell blasted a grand slam to right to jump the lead to 5-0.
That was all the support Jaylen Cream needed. Rochester’s right-hander went seven innings and twirled six strikeouts en route to his second win of the year.
The Honkers’ bats weren’t done yet. In the top of the fifth, they piled on. Two two-run home runs were belted by Sean Barta and Matt Maize to power the lead to 9-0.
In the top of the eighth, Harry crushed a solo shot to center field to make it a double-digit lead, 10-0, before singling and scoring on a McDonald RBI double to make it 11-0. Harry ended 4-5 with a home run and two runs scored. After a run scored on a wild pitch, Rochester closed out a 12-0 win in the bottom of the ninth.
With the loss, Waterloo goes to 9-10 on the season and 0-3 against Rochester. The series shifts to Mayo Field where the Honkers host the Bucks on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm. Max Collins is the starter for Waterloo while the Honkers starting pitcher is TBD.
