Waterloo, IA – In game two between the Waterloo Bucks and Thunder Bay Border Cats, the Bucks climbed the mountain top and ended with a 10-9 walk-off win.
The Waterloo Bucks started the game down by three runs, but with the help of a game-tying three-run homerun from Christian Smith (Illinois), the game was tied at three all going into the fifth. Smith would end the night with four hits and six RBIs in one of the best batting performances by any Buck this season.
Thunder Bay took the lead and helped it going into the ninth. Waterloo added two runs over the seventh (RBI single from Lucas Moore) and eighth inning (RBI single from Christian Smith) to make the score 9-5.
The Bucks had the 2-3-4 part of the lineup set for the bottom of the ninth and they work like a well-oiled machine. Eight batters came to the plate and five came around to score. There were three super big hits in the bottom half-inning; Ian Halverson (Palomar College) hit a big two-run double sending home Moore and Smith. Just a batter later, Christian Smith smoked a game-tying two-RBI single to center field tying the game at nine all. Tagger Tyson (Louisville), the final batter needed, hit the game-winning single into right field scoring Luke Finn (East Dallas Baptist), the pinch runner for Smith, from second base.
Waterloo faces the Minnesota Mud Puppies for a two-game series starting tomorrow, July 20th, before heading into the All-Star Break. Game One is set for 6:35 PM at Riverfront Stadium.
