Waterloo, IA – Reagan Reeder led the way for Duluth with a home run and four RBIs as the Huskies grabbed an early lead and never looked back to come into Waterloo and take control of the series with a 12-5 win Wednesday night.

Duluth opened the offense in the top of the third. Anthony Zarzana reached on a dropped third strike, then scored on a Vinny Smith bases-loaded sacrifice fly to put Duluth in front 1-0. One batter later, Reagan Reeder came up and laced a single to right to plate two more runs to make it 3-0.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Waterloo got on the board. With the bases loaded, Kendric Sorgius lined a sacrifice fly to center to bring in Chase Porter to make it 3-1.

In the top of the sixth, the Huskies brought in two more after Blake Eckerly singled to right field to bring one home, then a throwing error allowed another to score to push the lead to 5-1.

In the top of the seventh, Duluth grew the lead. Reagan Reeder blasted a home run to right to extend the advantage to 6-1.

The Bucks answered with a run of their own in the home half of the inning. MJ Sweeney led off with a single for his first Bucks hit, then was forced home after Zach Davis worked a bases loaded walk to make it 6-2.

The Huskies then pulled away with three runs in the eighth and ninth innings respectively to take the wind out of the sails of the Bucks and walk away with a win in the series opener, 12-5.

With the loss, Waterloo goes to 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in the series with Duluth. Game two is slated for Thursday night at 6:35 pm. Both starters are TBD.
