Rockford, IL – Waterloo scores five times in the top of the third inning, MJ Sweeney goes 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored, Josh Kaplan had a pair of two out RBI singles to help the Bucks go into Rockford and sweep the Rivets with an 8-4 win Saturday night.
After getting on the board first in game one, the Bucks opened the scoring in the top of the second inning Saturday. Dane Most reached on a dropped third strike, then moved up to second on a wild pitch. Josh Kaplan drove him in with a grounder up the middle to give Waterloo a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the third, the Bucks pulled away. Zach Davis led off with a single, then scored on a wild pitch. Chase Porter then tapped an infield single to put two on after MJ Sweeney singled. After both runners moved up on a wild pitch, Caleb Seibers drove in both with a single to grow the lead to 4-0. After moving up to third, Seibers scored on a passed ball. One batter later, Dane Most walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. Finally, with two outs, Kaplan laced a single to center to plate Most to extend the lead to 6-0.
In the bottom of the third inning, Rockford cut the lead in half. Colin McCormick reached on an error, then Bryce Nevils walked. Next up, Davis Collie ripped a single to center to put the Rivets on the board, 6-1. Now with two outs, Coby Neville hit a fly ball to right field that was mishandled and two runs scored on the play to make it 6-3.
That was as close as Rockford got in the game as Waterloo scored two more runs in the fifth and sixth on a Sweeney RBI single and another on a wild pitch to bring the final tally to 8-4.
With the win, the Bucks go to 4-2 on the season and sweep the Rivets. Waterloo travels to Kenosha, Wisconsin for a two game series against the Kingfish. Game one is scheduled for Sunday at 1:35 pm with Jackson Sobel on the mound for Kenosha and Cade Nolan for the Bucks.
