Waterloo, IA – After a two-game road trip in Eau Claire, the Bucks went home to face the Rochester Honkers and won excellently with a walk-off RBI single from infielder Evan Morrison to give the Bucks a 6-5 victory.
Both teams came out swinging as Rochester added three runs in the first two innings of the ball game. The Bucks had two runs in the first thanks to back-to-back RBI singles from designated hitter Chase Beattie and first baseman Marcus Heusohn. Then outfielder Ben Wilmes tacked on another in the second with a one-run double to pull the game closer at 4-3 Rochester.
In the fifth inning, the Honkers scored their final run on a double from power-hitting first baseman Mattie Thomas. Waterloo’s pitching staff was lights out from the third inning onwards, with RHP Brendon Carter going 3.2 IP while only allowing two hits and a run; and LHP Ryan Gold setting 12 Honkers down in order over four innings of work.
The bats came back to life and hit in bunches in the back half of this one as one run was scored in all of the final three innings. The final run was in the ninth inning when Evan Morrison got his third hit of the game and his teammate Larry Edwards Jr to score the winning run. The Bucks had 16 total hits in their victory and currently hold the longest active winning streak in the NWL at six games.
