Even with a postponed game, there a total of nine games on the Northwoods League schedule on Thursday night with a doubleheader between Lakeshore and Battle Creek, which ended up in a split. The game between Willmar and Waterloo was postponed due to unplayable field conditions. They will play two seven-inning games on Friday night beginning at 5:05.
Lakeshore 6, Battle Creek 5 – Game 1
The Lakeshore Chinooks beat the Battle Creek Bombers 6-5 in the 12th inning. The game was suspended on Wednesday night in the top of the 12th, and it was completed on Thursday. With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the 12th inning, pinch-hitter Kurtis Brown (Richmond) hit a single for the game-winning run. Lakeshore's starting pitcher Marshall Kasowski (Houston) pitched six innings and gave up two runs on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts in a no decision.
Battle Creek 7, Lakeshore 4 – Game 2
The Battle Creek Bombers scored three late runs to beat the Lakeshore Chinooks 7-4 on Thursday night to split the doubleheader. Lakeshore tied the game at four in the top of the seventh, but the Bombers scored twice in the seventh and added an insurance run in the eighth for the three-run victory. Battle Creek's centerfielder Dean Miller (Riverside City College) connected on his seventh home run of the season and knocked in three runs in the win.
Kenosha 5, Wisconsin 1
The Kenosha Kingfish rallied for three runs in the second inning in a 5-1 victory over the Wisconsin Woodchucks on Thursday night. After the three-run inning, Wisconsin answered with one in the fourth. The Kingifsh scored one run in the seventh and eighth inning for the four-run lead. Kenosha's second baseman Sawyer Gieseke (Arizona) hit his first home run of the season and finished 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and one run scored. Kingfish starting pitcher Christian Bokich (Lee University) threw seven innings and allowed one run on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts to earn the victory.
Rochester 5, Duluth 2
The Rochester Honkers scored four runs in the second inning in a 5-2 win against the Duluth Huskies on the road. Rochester sent eight batters to the plate in the inning, and the Huskies scored twice in the bottom of third to cut the lead to one. The Honkers added one insurance run in the top of the ninth in the victory. Rochester's starting pitcher Ricky Delgado (UC Riverside) pitched seven innings and allowed two unearned runs on five hits and zero walks with three strikeouts to pick up the win.
Thunder Bay 3, Eau Claire 2
The Thunder Bay Border Cats scored one run in the fourth inning to break the tie in a 3-2 victory over the Eau Claire Express on Thursday night on the road. Thunder Bay opened up the scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning, and the Express answered with one in the bottom half of the inning. Eau Claire tied the game in the third, and the Border Cats scored the run in the fourth for a 3-2 advantage, as the rest of the game remained scoreless. Thunder Bay's starter Patrick Boyle (Drew University) threw 5 1/3 innings and gave up two runs on eight hits and two walks with one strikeout for the win.
La Crosse 9, Mankato 4
The La Crosse Loggers beat the Mankato MoonDogs 9-4 on the road in a rain-shortened game. The contest was completed in just five innings. La Crosse finished with 13 hits, and eight batters finished with at least one hit. Loggers' rightfielder Griffin Conine (Duke) finished 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs and one RBI, while shortstop Mason McCoy (Iowa) finished 2-for-2 with two walks, three runs scored and one RBI. Jack Ralston (UCLA) threw all five innings for La Crosse and allowed four runs on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts for the win.
Wisconsin Rapids 9, Kalamazoo 2
The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters scored six runs in the first and recorded the first eight runs in the game in a 9-2 home victory over the Kalamazoo Growlers on Thursday night. Wisconsin Rapids' rightfielder Brett Thompson (Hope International) hit 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI and a walk, as well as his first home run of the season. Designated hitter Joe Wainhouse (Washington) also homered for the Rafters and finished 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI, two runs scored and one walk. Gareth Stroh (Coffeyville CC) earned the win and threw six innings, allowed one run on six hits and one walk with nine strikeouts.
St. Cloud 5, Madison 3
The St. Cloud Rox scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat the Madison Mallards 5-3 at home on Thursday night. St. Cloud scored two runs in the first inning, and Madison took a one-run lead with a run in the second, fourth and sixth innings. The Rox scored one in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game, and a wild pitch, followed by a homer from third baseman Denis Karas (Cal Berkeley) put St. Cloud ahead by two. Madison went down in order in the top of the ninth inning for the St. Cloud victory.
Rockford 11, Green Bay 6
The Rockford Rivets pounded out 17 hits in a 11-6 road victory over the Green Bay Bullfrogs on Thursday night. Rockford's second baseman Neal Tyrell (Lewis University) hit 3-for-5 with three runs scored, one RBI and one walk, as well as his second home run of the season. Third baseman Ricardo Ramirez (UIC) hit his fifth homer of the year and finished 3-for-6 with three RBI and one run scored. Rivets' starting pitcher Max Frederick (Lackawanna CC) went eight innings and allowed five runs on five hits and five walks with no strikeouts for the win.
