After all the rain that hit the Midwest, six games were played tonight. The Waterloo Bucks won a two-run game over the Duluth Huskies to put them in a first-place tie with the St. Cloud Rox in the North. Wisconsin Rapids was rained out which kept them two and a half games ahead in the South. All the postponed information is listed below.

Waterloo 7, Duluth 5

The Waterloo Bucks won their tenth game of the season after getting out to a hot start for a 7-5 victory over the Duluth Huskies. The Bucks struck first in the top of the first when Drew Greenwood (Bellarmine) hit an RBI double to score the first two of the three in that inning. Another run came in the next inning when Deion Thompson (Western Illinois) hit an RBI single. Thompson drove in another in the fourth from a sac fly to put the Bucks up 4-0. The Huskies finally got on the board from an unearned run in the fifth, but Thompson drove in number three in the top half of the sixth. Duluth wouldn’t go away as they answered for two in the bottom half and two more in the seventh when the Bucks put one up in their half of the inning. That would end up the final as Brandon Downey (Maryville) got out of trouble in the seventh and finished the final two scoreless to pick up his fourth save of the season.

Kenosha 4, Rockford 2

The Kenosha Kingfish scored three in the seventh to take the lead and defeat the Rockford Rivets 4-2 and improved to 9-5 on the season. With the win, the Kingfish have a game lead over the Rivets and are tied for second in the South. Rockford scored first in the third when Ryan Hutchinson (Illinois State) scored on a fielder’s choice. Kenosha tied the game when Derek Bangert (Bradley) scored on a sac fly. The Kingfish finally took the lead in the next inning when Mike Madej (Purdue) scored on a wild pitch and Korby Batesole (Fresno State) scored on a single and the third came from an error. A pass ball scored a run for the Rivets in the bottom half, but that would be it for either team. Zach Stromberg (Boston College) gave up the one unearned run, but settled in to convert the three inning save for the Kingfish. Quinn Snarskis (Saint Joseph’s) picked up his first win of the season after throwing six, allowed one unearned run on three hits with three strike outs.

Battle Creek 9, Wisconsin 7

The Battle Creek Bombers went ahead early and battled back in the ninth to put away the Wisconsin Woodchucks 9-7. After four scoreless innings, Cale Hennemann (Memphis) scored the first of five runs for the Bombers in the fifth from a sac fly. JD Mundy (Virginia Tech) also hit his fifth home run of the season which was three-run shot. The Chucks would take the lead in the bottom half as they answered with six. Brylie Ware (Oklahoma) knocked in a run from a single to get things going and later scored from a two-run single by Ivan Nunez (Hillsborough CC). As the Woodchucks were clinging onto a one-run lead, the Bombers tied it in the eighth when Nick Walker (Austin Peay State) scored on a fielder’s choice. Wisconsin would then re take the lead in the bottom half which set up Orsen Josephona (Hillsborough CC) for his sixth save opportunity. Battle Creek got to the closer as they tied the game from a Walker RBI single and took the lead when Tom Stoffel (Virginia Tech) scored on a hit by pitch. They added one more as Colton Bradley (Central Michigan) shut the door on the Chucks in the bottom half to secure the win.

Bismarck 2, Rochester 7

The Rochester Honkers rode their pitching staff late in the ball game until they finally put up seven in two innings to defeat the Bismarck Larks 7-2. Both starting pitchers pitched into the fifth without allowing a run. The Larks got the first run in the sixth with an RBI triple by Mason Pierzchalski (North Dakota State). The Honkers responded in their half with three when Weston Hatten (Nevada) drove in two from a triple and later scored form a sac fly. Rochester extended their lead with four in the seventh which included two more RBI from Hatten. The Larks wouldn’t go away as they got one in the eighth, but Rochester’s ninth inning man Manny Armandariz (Doane) closed the door to secure the win.

St. Cloud 4, Willmar 5

The Willmar Stingers scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the St. Cloud Rox 5-4 tonight. Cameron Eden (California) put the Rox on the board first in the top half of the opening inning from a two-run single. The Stingers answered for one in the bottom half from a double by Nolan Bumstead (CSU-Northridge). The Rox went up three in the top of the third from a two-RBI single. Willmar kept battling back to come within one as they put up two in the fifth. The game went scoreless into the ninth with the Rox up two, but they started to make mistakes on defense. After back-to-back doubles, the Stingers tied the ball game from an RBI by Rob Emery (San Francisco). Myles Smith (Georgia Gwinnett) then pinch ran for Emery, advanced on a walk and a scored the game winner on a dropped third strike.  

Thunder Bay 12, La Crosse 3

The Thunder Bay Border Cats scored early and often in a 12-3 victory over the La Crosse Loggers. The Border Cats scored first in the opening inning when they went off for four which started from a three-run shot by Noah Strohl (Grossmont). The Loggers came within one with three in the third which was highlighted by a two-run single from Grant Judkins (Iowa). Thunder Bay then got three more in the fourth. Strohl scored his second run of the game along with Jared McCunn (SIU-Edwardsville) on a two-run single from Kevin Biondic (Maryland). Thunder Bay kept pouring it on as they scored single runs in the seventh and eighth and three in the ninth. Brandon Fokkema (Dordt) pitched the final four for the Border Cats to secure the win.
