There are no longer any undefeated teams in the Northwoods League. La Crosse fell to Rochester, the Woodchucks pitch a gem to defeat Kenosha and St. Cloud won in thrilling fashion with an 11th inning walk-off win.

 

Green Bay 12, Wisconsin Rapids 5

The Green Bay Bullfrogs used a big eighth inning to defeat the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 12-5. Jake Munoz (San Francisco) got the ball rolling for the Frogs as he led off the third with a dinger. The Rafters tied the game in the bottom half. Green Bay retook the lead in the next inning from a two-RBI single by Munoz. The Bullfrogs got another three in the next inning which was powered by a two-run single from Collin Luty (Northern Kentucky). Rapids chipped away again for one in the bottom half. Mitch Mallek (St. Cloud State) doubled in a run for the Rafters in the seventh, but Green Bay did enough damage with six in the next inning. The Rafters committed three errors in the inning. Rapids got a pair in the bottom half, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Bismarck 7, St. Cloud 8 (11 Innings)

The St. Cloud Rox gave the Bismarck Larks their first loss with a walk-off win in the 11th inning. The game went scoreless until the Larks jumped on the board with one in the fifth on an RBI double by Kyle Stevens (Murray State). The Rox though responded in a big way for three in the bottom half which included a two-run shot by Ricardo Sanchez (Arkansas Pine Bluff). The Larks tied it in the sixth, but the Rox got both back from back-to-back RBI doubles. Bismarck got one in the seventh, but St. Cloud got a pair in the bottom half. The game went back and forth once again as the Larks got one in the eighth and forced extras in the ninth on a two-run single by Brandon Barma (Alcorn State). Finally in the bottom of the 11th Ryan Weisenberg (Georgetown) delivered the game winner from a single.

Rochester 5, La Crosse 1

The Rochester Honkers kept the La Crosse Loggers scoreless for seven innings and won the game 5-1. Rochester was on the board right away when Derek Scott led off the game with a dinger and Reed Hjelle followed later with an RBI double. The Honkers capitalized on an error in the third and then scored twice more in the fifth. David Lemasters (Lake Erie) got the start for Rochester, didn’t allow a run on one hit while striking out six. The Loggers managed to hit the bullpen for one in the seventh as Kody Gardner (Sacramento City CC) came home on a wild pitch, but Joshua Ibarra (Concordia Irvine) pitched the final 1.2 scoreless.

Rockford 8, Lakeshore 1

The Rockford Rivets went off in the sixth inning and defeated the Lakeshore Chinooks 8-1. The Chinooks actually got on the board first when Jake Thompson (Palomar) led off the third with a homer. The Rivets tied it up in the fourth on a pass ball and then exploded for seven two innings later. Rockford tallied seven hits, Lakeshore committed an error and Pat Loeffler (Indiana) picked up one of his four hits on an RBI single. Nathan Schneiderman (Dubuque) ended up being the pitcher on record out of the bullpen as he threw 3.2 with the lead, only allowed one hit, allowed one walk and struck out four.

Kenosha 1, Wisconsin 3

The Wisconsin Woodchucks go to each of the Kenosha Kingfish pitchers tonight and defeated them 3-1. Both teams traded runs in the first inning. The Kingfish got their run from Mike Madej (Northwest Florida State) which was unearned. The Chucks tied it in the bottom half from an RBI single by Isaac Quinones (Miami). Brent Headrick (Illinois State) got the start for Wisconsin, threw six innings only allowed the one run on three hits and struck out 10 guys. The Chucks then took the lead in the fifth off an RBI single and then another in the eighth for what would end up being the final score.

Madison 6, Fond du Lac 10

The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders used a huge seventh inning to defeat the Madison Mallards 10-6. The Mallards got on the board first in the opening inning when Jake Randa (NW Florida State) knocked in a run from a double. The Mallards put up another pair in the second, but Fondy tied the game in the bottom half. The Mallards once again took the lead in the fifth and added one more in the seventh. The Spiders then posted seven In the bottom half and broke the game wide open. Chris Ayers (Indiana State) was the highlight as he hit a single and double in the same inning and ended the night with two RBI and two runs scored.

Duluth 5, Eau Claire 3

The Duluth Huskies avoided a late threat from the Eau Claire Express and won the game 5-3. Duluth got on the board first in the opening inning on a wild pitch. The Huskies scored again in the third from an RBI single by Auggie Isaacson (Friends). Duluth went up four with runs in the fourth and sixth. Andrew Stout (Liberty) threw 6.2 for the Huskies, allowed two runs in the bottom of the sixth, gave up two hits and two walks while striking out six. The Express scored on a two-run single by Nic Ready (Air Force). Duluth got one back in the seventh. Eau Claire managed one in the bottom of the ninth from an RBI single, but the next guy grounded into a fielder’s choice to end the game.

Willmar 4, Waterloo 8

The Waterloo Bucks held off a late threat from the Willmar Stingers and won the game 8-4. The Bucks got on the board in the opening inning from a sac fly. Waterloo went up four in the third which was powered by a two-run triple by Trey Leonard (Louisville). The Stingers got on the board in the fifth on an RBI single by Cal Elvers (Miami (OH)). Waterloo broke out for four in the sixth when Ryan Gonzalez (Incarnate Word) got things going on a two-run single. The Stingers managed to plate three in the ninth from a balk, RBI single and sac fly, but the next two batters went down to end the inning.

Kalamazoo 9, Battle Creek 3

The Kalamazoo Growlers went off in the seventh inning to defeat the Battle Creek Bombers 9-3. The Growlers jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the second inning when they got runs from a pass ball and a sac fly. Kalamazoo jumped out for four in the seventh inning and then posted one more in the ninth from another sac fly. Niko Kavadas (Notre Dame) was the star for the Growlers as he went 2 for 3 with 4 RBI and the team’s first double of the season. The Bombers were led by Jordan Swiss (Saginaw Valley) who went 3 for 5 and scored one of the three runs.

Mankato 2, Thunder Bay 5

The Thunder Bay Border Cats used a three-run fifth to get by and defeat the Mankato MoonDogs 5-2. Both teams traded runs in the third inning. Kenton Crews (Evansville) knocked in a run for Mankato as Billy Cook (Pepperdine) scored on an RBI ground out for Thunder Bay. Mankato took the lead in the fourth, but the Border Cats answered in the next inning. They capitalized on an error, RBI single and Nick Conti (Eckerd) hitting an RBI triple. The Border Cats got one more in the sixth and Andrew Gross (UT-Arlington) converted the two-inning save.
