The Dock Spiders went off on the number one seed Madison Mallards and will play Kalamazoo for a chance in the Summer Collegiate World Series. Duluth defeated Bismarck tonight while Willmar walked it off against Mankato as the Huskies will play the Stingers in the North Divisional Championship.
Mankato 7, Willmar 8
The Willmar Stingers walked it off in the bottom of the 10th and defeated the Mankato MoonDogs 8-7. Kyle MacDonald (Arkansas State) led off the second with a homer for Mankato. Jake Shepski (Xavier) then hit a three-run shot for the MoonDogs in the third. Willmar managed to get two in the bottom half, but Shepski knocked in two in a three-run fifth for Mankato. The Stingers then went off for five in the bottom half as Nic Hernandez (Cal Poly Pomona) led off the inning with a homer. That forced extra innings and Nick Mears (Sacramento City) came in relief for the Stingers and struck out nine out of the 12 guys he faced. Then in the tenth, John Trousdale (Alabama) hit a two-out RBI single to win the game for Willmar.
Duluth 13, Bismarck 5
The Duluth Huskies used a big sixth inning and defeated the Bismarck Larks 13-5. They got two in the opening inning which was started by Nicholas Sogard (Loyola-Marymount) hitting an RBI single. Bismarck managed one in the third, but Duluth went off for four in the next inning on two errors and a single from Julian Escobedo (San Diego State). The Larks got a pair in the fifth, but the Huskies got six in the sixth. Sogard hit a single and along with an error scored three. Bismarck got another pair in the seventh on RBI singles from Carson Bartels (St. Johns) and Jacob Nesbit (Arkansas). Duluth scored once more in the eighth while Jason Braziel (Friends) threw the final 2.2 to end the game.
Fond du Lac 17, Mankato 5
The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders used a big sixth inning and defeated the Madison Mallards 17-5. Fondy scored right away in the opening inning and then put up another three in the second when Cole Zabowski (Ole Miss) doubled in two. Alex Erro (Northwestern) hit a three-run shot in the third for the Spiders. Madison put up its first in the fourth, but the Dock Spiders got another in the fifth. David Vinsky (Northwood) drove in three in the bottom half on a double, but then Fondy hung seven in the sixth. Mitch Boe (Iowa) and Erro both came up with multiple base-knocks and scored runs themselves. Madison got another in the seventh, Fondy got two in the eighth and that was enough to knock off the Mallards.
Kalamazoo 5, Kenosha 3
The Kalamazoo Growlers went ahead in the eighth and defeated the Kenosha Kingfish 5-3. Kenosha scored first in the opening inning on a sac fly. Kalamazoo took the lead in the second with three when Dylan Shockley (Rio Grande) hit a home run. Marty Behina (Michigan State) hit a home run for the Kingfish in the third and Mike Madej (NW Florida State) hit an RBI single to tie it up in the sixth. The Growlers then took the lead for good in the eighth on an error, RBI single from Jared Miller (Notre Dame) and a run-scoring single by Shockley. Joe Boyle (Notre Dame) then threw the final inning and converted the save.
