Lots of great plays tonight for the Northwoods League. The Willmar Stingers and La Crosse Loggers started the night off with a great win 12-1 for the Stingers continuing their winning streak (5-0). While the Bismarck Larks played the St. Cloud Rox tonight winning 9-6. The Larks and Stingers are both undefeated this seasons so far 5-0.
Willmar Stingers 12, La Crosse Loggers 1
The Willmar Stingers defeated the La Crosse Loggers with a final score 12-1 taking control during the third inning scoring seven runs. Stingers Cal Elvers (Miami (OH)) and Chase Stanke (Minnesota) had three RBIs during the game. Elvers also hit a double, one run, and one hit. TJ Byrd (Young Harris) hit a double and one RBI for the La Crosse Loggers. The winning pitcher of the night was Willmar’s Tyler Bosma (Miami (OH)) pitching six innings with zero runs, three hits, and nine strike outs. While the losing pitcher was Mason McMahon (UW La Crosse) giving up four hits, six runs, and two strike outs for the Loggers.
Madison Mallards 4, Wisconsin Woodchucks 2
The Madison Mallards beat the Wisconsin Woodchucks 4-2 tonight. Madison’s Jordan Stephens (Miami Ohio) and Justin Wiley (Alabama- Birmingham) both contributed an RBI. Stephens hit a double, three hits, and one run during his time at the plate. Brandon Seltzer (Palm Beach Atlantic) had two hits and one RBI for the Woodchucks. The winning pitcher for the Mallards was Trevor Marreel (Washburn University) pitching a total of five innings with four hits, one run, three walks, and six strike outs. Leon Davidson (NC AT) was the saving pitcher for Madison pitching one inning with zero hits, zero runs, and two strike outs. While Wisconsin’s losing pitcher was Beau Nichols (Lincoln Memorial University) with five hits, three runs, and three strike outs during a three inning period.
Lakeshore Chinooks 3, Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 5
The Spiders took control of the Chinooks during the last few innings to take the win. The final score was 5-3, with the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders scoring three runs during the seventh inning. Max Downs (St. Xavier University) hit a home run of the Spiders as well as two runs and one hit. Andrew Bullock (Western Carolina) hit a double, two RBIs, and one hit during the game. The losing pitcher was Lakeshore’s Aaron Ras (Wayne State College) pitching five innings, giving up six hits and two runs, and striking out two. The winning pitcher was Ryan Miller (Benedictine) pitching one inning with three hits, one run, and two strike outs for the Fond du Lac’s. The saving pitcher of the game was Nathan Thomas (Northern Illinois) finishing with one hit and one strike during his one inning at the pitchers mound.
Rochester Honkers 1, Waterloo Bucks 7
The Waterloo Bucks demolished the Rochester Honkers for their fourth win this season finishing the game 7-1. The Bucks took control of the game scoring four runs during the second inning by Caleb LittleJim ( Kansas State), Sam Olson ( Heartland CC ), Mike Nyisztor (Rutgers), and Greg Anderberg ( George Washington). The Waterloo’s Blake Berry (San Jose State) hit a double, an RBI, and two hits during the night. The winning pitcher of the night is the bucks Zach Jones (Spalding) pitching six inning worth of work giving up five hits, one run, and seven strike outs. While the losing pitcher for the Honkers was Evan Larsen (Cal State Fullerton) with four hits, four runs, and zero strike outs during his two innings at work.
Battle Creek Bombers 2, Traverse City Pit Spitters 8
The Battle Creek Bombers take the initiative scoring two runs during the first and scoring three runs during five inning. The Spitters Jake Wilson (Bowling Green State) had two RBIs, two hits, and one run. John Malcom (Vanderbilt) and Hunter Ruhstorfer (Davenport) hit their own RBI for the Bombers. The winning pitcher of the night was Andrew Hoffman (Oakland University) pitching five innings while giving up two hits, six walks, and five strike outs. The losing pitcher for Battle Creek was Calvin Starnes (Northwest Florida State) striking out one, one hit, three runs, and five walks during his two inning time.
Duluth Huskies 4, Eau Claire Express 9
The Eau Claire Express taking their first win of the season against the 3-2 Duluth Huskies. The final score of the game was 9-4 with the Eau Claire’s dominating the bottom of the second inning scoring five runs. Brock Burton (Grand Canyon) had three RBIs, one run, a triple, and three hits for the Express’. Boone Montgomery (UT-Arlington) also contributed two RBIs, one run, and one hit for the Eau Claire Express during tonight game. For the Huskies Carter Putz (Notre Dame) hit a double, two hits, and one RBI. The winning pitcher of the game was Cole LaLonde (Century CC) pitching a total of four innings while giving up one hit, zero runs, and eleven strike outs. Nick Alvarado (Illinois-Springfield) saved the day with zero hits, zero runs, and four strike outs during his three inning time at the mound. The Huskies Owen Meaney (Texas) was the losing pitcher with three hits, five runs, one walk, and two strike outs.
Bismarck Larks 9, St. Cloud Rox 6
The Bismarck Larks defeat the St. Cloud Rox remaining undefeated this season with a final score 9-6. The Larks Brian Leonhardt (San Diego State) hit a home run, a double, five RBIs, two runs, and three hits during tonights game. Zack Elliot (Minnesota) has two RBIs, a double, one hit, and one run for the Rox’s. The winning pitcher of the night was Trent Sidwell (University of Illinois- Spring field) giving up one hit, one run, and zero walks. The Larks saving pitcher was Conner Tomasic (Purdue) pitching one inning with three hits, one strike out, and zero runs or hits. The St. Cloud Rox’s losing pitcher was Taylor Lepard (USC Upstate) giving up two hits, five runs, and zero strike outs.
Mankato MoonDogs 8, Thunder Bay Border Cats 7
The Mankato MoonDogs beat the Thunder Bay Border Cats with a close 8-7 win improving their record (1-4) and adding their first win of the season. The MoonDogs made a move on the Border Cats during the seventh inning scoring four runs. Skylar Culver (Arkansas State) hit a double and two RBIs for Mankato. While the Border Cat’s Tyson Fisher (Dixie State University (UT)) and Karsten Vasquez (Sacramento City College) both had two RBIs and doubles from the game. The winning pitcher was from the Mankato MoonDogs, Trevor Smisek (Saint Leo), pitching one inning with zero runs, zero hits, and three strike outs. Alex Dorethy (Western Illinois) came in for the save giving up two hits, zero runs, and three strike outs during his two innings at work. The Border Cat’s losing pitcher of the game was Joey Hecht (Daytona State College (FL)) with zero strike outs, two hits, and two runs.
Rockford Rivets 5, Kokomo Jackrabbits 4
The Rockford Rivets fought for the win against the Kokomo Jackrabbits extending the game into 11 innings. There was not much action during the first nine inning but the Rivets took charge scoring two runs each in the 10th and 11th innings. The final score was 5-4, Rockford with the win. Tom Josten received a home run for the Rivets along with one hit, two RBIs, and one run. The losing pitcher of the game was Mark Meyer (Akron) pitching one inning and giving up two runs, two hits, and zero strike outs. While the winning pitcher was Joe Dittmar (Illinois-Springfield) with two strike outs, zero hits, three runs, and one walk during his two innings at the plate.
Green Bay Booyah’s 6, Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 12
The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters controlled the Green Bay Booyah’s on Saturday night with a blow out win. The final score was 12-6, Wisconsin Rapids Rafters taking the lead. The Rafters started the first inning strong with three runs and keeping up with the momentum for the rest of the nine innings scoring nine more runs. Wisconsin’s Josh Nicoloff (Columbia) assisted the offense with three RBIS of the night.
