One night after giving up a five-run lead in the ninth inning, the Mandan Flickertails bounced back in a huge way on Saturday, as they swept the Bismarck Bull Moose in a day-night doubleheader to get back to the .500 mark on the season (3-3). The two losses leave the Bull Moose still in search of their first win of the season (0-4).
Game One: Flickertails 4, Bull Moose 2
In the first game, Jeffrey Elkins (Northwestern State) lead the Flickertails, going 2-3 with a double and a run scored. Jackson Loftin (Sam Houston State) went 2-2 at the plate with one RBI while Cole Elvis (Caliornia-Berkley) and Adam Dapkewicz (Georgetown) both picked up one hit.
On the mound, Clark Candiotti (Saint Mary’s College) got the start and threw four clean innings, scattering two hits and recording three strikeouts. Mason Philley (Arkansas-Monticello) picked up the win, lasting three innings allowing one run on two hits and striking out five batters.
Game Two: Flickertails 7, Bull Moose 0
In game two, it was the Bull Moose who scored first, as DEBRECHT hit an infield single to score SCHWABE. They wouldn’t hold on to the lead for long though, as the Flickertails exploded to score five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
Dapkewicz led the Flickertails offense, going 2-4 with a run scored. Elvis had the big bat, going just 1-2 but recording three RBI. On the mound, Lucas Reid (Nova Southeastern) got the start and lasted six innings, allowing two runs on three hits and recording three strikeouts to pick up the win. Blake Petty (Alabama-Birmingham) came on in the seventh and threw the final three innings, allowing three hits and no runs to pick up his first save of the season.
All three teams will be off on Sunday, before baseball returns Monday night as the Bull Moose return to the diamond for a 7:05 matchup with the Bismarck Larks.
