As the second half of the season started today many games were won in a pitcher’s duel. Mitchell Leroy from the Madison Mallards earned the Northwoods League Pitcher of the Night award throwing a scoreless six innings with seven strikeouts giving up only one hit. The Mallards defeated the Rockers in a 3-0 victory. The La Crosse Loggers had an exciting start with a 10 inning victory over the Waterloo Bucks. Josh Stevenson walked the game off with a two run double.
Lakeshore Chinooks 2, Battle Creek Battle Jacks 0
The Lakeshore Chinooks win their first game of the second half of the season against the Battle Creek Battle Jacks 2-0. Eric Chalus (Kent State University) led his team throwing a scoreless six innings with seven strikeout to earn the win on the mound. The Chinooks struck first, scoring one run in the top of the fourth with a sac fly by Aidan Longwell (Kent State University) who scored Garrett Martin (Oklahoma State University). Martin had the only double of the night. John Bay (Oklahoma State University) scored the second run in the ninth inning with an RBI triple to center field.
Traverse City Pit Spitters 9, Kalamazoo Growlers 5
The Traverse City Pit Spitters take the first game of the series against the Kalamazoo Growlers 9-5. The Pit Spitters scored four runs in the first inning with a grand slam by Colin Summerhill (Northern Illinois University). Summerhill had two hits with six RBI on the night. Jakob Marsee (Central Michigan University) reached base four times with a walk, three hits including a double with one RBI. Derek Clark (Northwood University) was the starting pitcher for the Pit Spitters throwing six innings with three strikeouts.
Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 10, Kokomo Jackrabbits 6
The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders defeated the Kokomo Jackrabbits for the first game of the series 10-6. The Spiders struck first, scoring two runs in the top of the first innings with an RBI single by Cole Messina (University of South Carolina). Messina went three for four with a double, walk and three RBI. Nick Mitchell (Western Illinois University) also had three hits with a double scoring twice as he reached base. Joshua Culliver (University of Minnesota) had the win on the mound throwing the first four innings with five strikeouts. The Spiders offense generated 13 hits with four doubles.
Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 2, Wausau Woodchucks 1
The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters stayed hot winning their first game of the second half of the season against the Wausau Woodchucks 2-1. The Rafters scored their two runs in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single by Mckinley Erves (LaGrange College) and Garrett Broussard (Utah Valley University). Nick Torres (Western Carolina) started the game throwing a scoreless four innings with two strikeouts giving up only one hit. Josh Howitt (California State University, Fullerton) had the win throwing four innings with five strikeouts allowing only one run to score.
Eau Claire Express 4, Mankato MoonDogs 3
The Eau Claire Express rallied to take the first game against the Mankato MoonDogs 4-3. The Express combined for 10 hits and no errors on the field. Cadyn Schwabe (North Dakota State University) and Benjamin Rosengard (Rice University) both had two hits with Rosengard scoring both times with one RBI. Reed Latimer (University of Montevallo) also had two hits with a triple in the second inning. Alec Baker (Dallas Baptist University) was the starting pitcher throwing five innings with nine strikeouts allowing only one run to score.
Madison Mallards 3, Green Bay Rockers 0
The Madison Mallards took game one of the series against the Green Bay Rockers 3-0. Nick Gonzalez (University of South Florida) led the Mallards with two hits including two doubles scoring once as he reached base. J.J Wetherholt (West Virginia University) and Josh Caron (University of Nebraska) both had hits with a double each. Mitchell Leroy (Florida Southern College) earned the win on the mound throwing a scoreless six innings with seven strikeouts giving up one hit.
La Crosse Loggers 3, Waterloo Bucks 2
In a 1o inning victory the La Crosse Loggers rallied back to defeat the Waterloo Bucks 3-2. Heading into the bottom of the 10th down by one run Josh Stevenson (Louisiana State University) walked the game off driving a double to right field to score two runs. Jack Haley (California State University, Fullerton) led the Loggers with two hits including a double scoring each time he reached base. Micky Thompson (San Jose State University) threw the first five innings with five strikeouts giving up only one hit. Grady Gorgen (Troy University) closed the game throwing the last five innings with five strikeouts and no hits.
Bismarck Larks 8, Duluth Huskies 4
The Bismarck Larks defeated the Duluth Huskies 8-4 for the first game of the series. Adam Axtell (Point Loma Nazarene University) led the Larks with three hits, a double and three RBI. Reggie Williams (Colorado State University – Pueblo) and A.J Barraza (California State University, San Bernardino) both had two hits with a double each and two RBI by Williams. Luke Glascoe (University of California, San Diego) reached base four times with two singles and two walks scoring twice. Carter Rost (Wichita State University) was the starting pitcher with the win on the mound throwing four innings with three strikeouts.
Rockford Rivets 6, Kenosha Kingfish 2
The Rockford Rivets took game one of the series defeating the Kenosha Kingfish 6-2. The Rivets scored their six runs in the bottom of the second inning.Tony Lindwedel (Notre Dame) had three hits with a double scoring once as he reached base. Drew Baker (Wright State University) had two hits driving in the first two runs of the game. Ricky Castro (Purdue University) received the win throwing six scoreless innings with five strikeouts giving up four hits. Noah Ruen (Tyler Junior College) was the closing pitcher throwing the ninth inning with two strikeouts.
Rochester Honkers 9, Minnesota Mud Puppies 1
The Rochester Honkers generated 15 hits to take the first game against the Minnesota Mud Puppies 9-1. Nico Regino (San Joaquin Delta College) and Joe Longo led the Honkers with three hits each. Regino had a double with two RBI and Longo (University of Michigan) had one RBI scoring twice as he reached base. Theo Hardy (San Jose State University) hit the only home run of the game in the second inning. Nathan Hansen (San Joaquin Delta College) earned the win throwing the first five innings with six strikeouts allowing zero runs to score.
St.Cloud Rox 10, Willmar Stingers 0
The St.Cloud Rox combined for 14 hits to defeat the Willmar Stingers 10-0. Brice Matthews (University of Nebraska) earned Northwoods League Player of the Night with four hits including three singles, a double, one RBI, a walk and a stolen base. Charlie Condon (University of Georgia) contributed to the offense with three hits, a double and three RBI. John Nett (St. Cloud State University) reached four times with three hits including a triple, home run scoring three times he reached base. Joseph Brandon (Georgia State University) was the starting pitcher throwing five scoreless innings giving up one hit with five strikeouts.
