As the Northwoods League heads into their last week of games, The Traverse City Pit Spitters, Wisconsin Rapids Rafters, Eau Claire Express and Willmar Stingers each lead their region. The St.Cloud Rox currently trail behind the Stingers by three wins. The Rox have won seven of their past ten games and currently have a three game win streak. The Rockford Rivets are also looking to take the lead as they have won nine of their last ten games.
Wausau Woodchucks 12, Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 5
The Wausau Woodchucks defeated the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 12-5. The Woodchucks rallied back to score five runs in the fifth inning with a grand slam by Garrett Hill (North Dakota State University) and an RBI single by Bradley Comer (University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point). Hill led the team with three hits including a double, two home runs, six RBI and a walk. Comer had two hits with a double and two RBI. Chase Hug (University of Evansville) also had two hits with a double and one RBI. Nik Levensteins (University of North Georgia) had two hits with two walks, a home run and three RBI. Christian Orr (Columbia International University) earned the win on the mound throwing 4.1 innings with two strikeouts allowing one run to score.
Kokomo Jackrabbits 7, Battle Creek Battle Jacks 2
The Kokomo Jackrabbits bounced back to split the series against the Battle Creek Battle Jacks 7-2. The Jackrabbits struck first scoring three runs in the first inning with a double by Tanner Tompkins (Concordia University). Tompkins had one hit with three RBI. The Jackrabbits tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning with an RBI single by Brayden Carter (Otterbein University). Carter had two hits on the one RBI on the day. Connor Throneberry (Pennsylvania State University) led the team throwing a complete nine innings with seven strikeouts allowing only two runs to score.
Eau Claire Express 5, Minnesota Mud Puppies 0
The Eau Claire Express won their second game in a row to defeat the Minnesota Mud Puppies 5-0. Adam Stanton (Iowa Western Community College) led the team throwing the first eight innings with five strikeouts giving up only four hits. Matt Helwig (Lewis University) closed the game throwing the last inning with three strikeouts. Joe Yorke (California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) had the only multi hit game with two hits and a double. Charlie Szykowny (University of Wisconsin – Stout) drove a home run over the right field fence scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Duluth Huskies 7, Willmar Stingers 6
The Duluth Huskies split the series against the Willmar Stingers 7-6. Down by three runs going into the ninth inning the Huskies scored four runs to walk the game off. Jonathan Vastine (Vanderbilt University) started the inning off with a double to right field to drive in two runs. Cam Frederick (University Nebraska Omaha) crushed a single to center field to score the final run of the game. Vastine led the team with three hits and three stolen bases. Jake Schelonka (The College of St. Scholastica) reached base three times with two hits, a walk, one RBI and two stolen bases. Isaiah Piscitello (Bryant & Stratton College) earned the win on the mound, throwing the last inning with one strikeout.
Rochester Honkers 10, La Crosse Loggers 2
The Rochester Honkers took down the La Crosse Loggers 10-2. The Honkers scored their first four runs in the third inning with a single by Brendan O’sullivan (San Joaquin Delta College) and a home run by Dario Gomez (University of Nevada, Reno) scoring three runs. O’sullivan had two hits on the night. Menelik Israel (Duke University) had three hits with a double, one RBI and a stolen base. Alex Ritzer (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) also had three hits with two RBI and two stolen bases. Jacob Smith (University of Tennessee at Martin) started the game throwing three innings with three strikeouts giving up zero hits.
Traverse City Pit Spitters 9, Kalamazoo Growlers 5
The Traverse City Pit Spitters swept the Kalamazoo Growlers 9-5. Evan Orzech (Saint Xavier University) reached base four times four times with two hits, two walks and stolen base scoring three times. Marshall Toole (Wofford College) also had a multi hit with two singles, a walk and a stolen base. Camden Traficante (Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University) had a home run with four RBI to lead the team. Avery Goldensoph (University of Michigan) earned the win on the mound, throwing the first seven innings with five strikeouts giving up only two hits. The Pit Spitters had nine hits on the night to win their second game in a row.
Lakeshore Chinooks 8, Madison Mallards 4
The Lakeshore Chinooks took down the Madison Mallards 8-4. The Chinooks scored five runs in the seventh inning with a three run home run by Stephen Hrustich (Northwestern University). Hrustich had two hits with four RBI. Andy Nelson (University of Iowa) went three for three with a double, two walks and two RBI. Matthew Deprey (Xavier University) reached base twice with a triple and a stolen base scoring once. Tyler Gronert (Milwaukee School of Engineering) was the starting pitcher throwing seven innings with seven strikeouts to earn the win. The Chinooks had ten hits on the day to win their second game in a row.
St.Cloud Rox 10, Waterloo Bucks 6
The St.Cloud Rox defeated the Waterloo Bucks 10-6 to earn their 20th win in the second half of the season. Charlie Condon (University of Georgia) led the team going three for four at the plate with a double and two RBI. John Nett (St. Cloud State University) reached base three times with two walks and a hit by pitch stealing four bases and scoring twice. Garrett Pennington (Wichita State University) had two hits with a double and two RBI. Hunter Day (Tarleton State University) had the win on the mound throwing the first five innings with five strikeouts. The Rox had 10 hits with eight walks winning their third game in a row.
Mankato MoonDogs 11, Bismarck Larks 2
For their second win in a row, the Mankato MoonDogs took down the Bismarck Larks 11-2. Charles McAdoo (San Jose State University) led the team with three hits including a triple, home run, two walks and five RBI with a stolen base. Ariel Armas (University of San Diego) contributed to the offense with two hits, two walks and two runs. Mikey Gottschalk (Minnesota State University, Mankato) reached base three times with a single, a walk and a hit by pitch, scoring each. T.J Martin (College of St. Scholastica) earned the win on the mound throwing the first six innings with five strikeouts allowing one run to score.
Green Bay Rockers 10, Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 6
The Green Bay Rockers won their second game in a row as they defeated the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 10-6. The Rockers struck first with an RBI double by Jake Mastillo (Long Island University – Brooklyn) in the first inning. Luke Ballweg (Augustana University) had the only multi hit game for his team going two for four with a walk and one RBI. Keniel De Leon (Long Island University – Brooklyn) reached base with three walks and had one RBI scoring twice. Caden Capomaccio (University of Minnesota) started the game throwing 3.2 innings with five strikeouts. Bryce Crabb (University of Northwestern Saint Paul) earned the win throwing the next 1.2 innings with one strikeout.
Rochester Honkers 5, La Crosse Loggers 4
The Rochester Honkers won their second game of the day against the La Crosse Loggers 5-4. With a tied score going into the bottom of the ninth inning with bases loaded, Kyle Whitaker (Patrick Henry Community College) drew a walk to score the final run of the game. Dario Gomez (University of Nevada, Reno) had a multi hit game going two for four at the plate. Andrew Duran (University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff) started the game throwing five innings with three strikeouts allowing one run to score. Cam Holycross (Indiana State University) closed the game throwing the last inning with two strikeouts giving up no hits.
