Wednesday’s Northwoods League slate featured 11 games with many thrilling tight matchups across the league to cap off day three of the season. A tight matchup between Traverse City and Kokomo ended with the Jackrabbits defeating the Pit Spitters in an exciting extra inning win. Being the first to upset a 2-0 opponent. Three other teams competed in extra inning contests and only four teams are going into day four with a 3-0 record.
Battle Creek Battle Jacks 2, Kalamazoo Growlers 6
After a quiet start, the Growlers offense comes through to defeat the Battle Jacks in a 6-2 victory earlier this morning. The Growlers are now 2-1 on the season.
After giving up a few walks, the pitching staff for Battle Creek could not hold down the Growler’s offense anymore. Their staff combined for 6 hits and 7 walks with 10 strikeouts. Cam Farrar (University of Findlay) went 2-for-4 with a double. Joshua Robinson (Davenport University) and Dave Alleva (West Chester University) score the Battle Jacks only runs of today. The Battle Jacks are now 1-2 on the season.
Infielder, Harry Major (Jackson Community College) had two RBI on the day while Myles Beale (Northwood University) went 1-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Ryan Dykstra (Oakland University) had an RBI double to right field to score their sixth run of the game. Holland Towne (Southern Mississippi) gets the win for the Woodchucks after throwing 2 innings. He gave up 0 hits, 0 walks, allowed zero runs, and had 2 strikeout.
Lakeshore Chinooks 5, Wausau Woodchucks 11
The Woodchucks tack eight runs on six hits to defeat the Lakeshore Chinooks in this evenings matchup.
Daniel Pacella (Illinois St University) scored the game’s first run with a single to left field. He went 1-for-3 at the plate today. Ben Hefel and Sam Meidenbauer each laced a double in the sixth inning to get a rally going for the Chinooks, but couldn’t drive anymore across.
Jesse Donohoe (Georgia State) was 1-for-3 with one homerun and two RBI and one run scored after hitting a 2-run shot to right field to start an explose seventh run inning for the Woodchucks. Karl Ralamb (Coastal Carolina University) gets the win for the Woodchucks after throwing 4 innings. He gave up 2 hits, 3 walks, 1 run, and had 3 strikeouts. They are now 2-1 on the season.
Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 4 , Madison Mallards 9
The Mallards defeat the Dock Spiders after jumping on them early with a 5-0 lead in the second inning.
Fond du Lac had eight hits on the day but could not string hits together to produce enough runs against the Mallards. Peterson (Trinity) and Travis Strickler (Embry-Riddle) reached base twice and Sweet-Chick (Nevada Reno) had two RBI, leading the team’s offense tonight.
Jack Tucker (St. John’s) went 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI in tonight’s game. Chatterton () was 3-for-4 with one RBI, one run scored and two doubles. Six batter in Madison’s lineup contributed a RBI. Gionanni Canales (Coppin St University) gets the win for the after throwing 3 innings. He gave up 2 hits, 3 walks, allowed 2 runs, and had 0 strikeouts.
Traverse City Pit Spitters 5, Kokomo Jackrabbits 6
In an intense and tightly contested matchup, Kenosha upsets the Pit Spitters this evening in an extra inning nail biter. Traverse City is now 2-1.
The Pit Spitters later responded after Kokoma struck first after getting their lead off on and generating a couple walks to string one across in the first inning. After a couple quiet innings, Traficante led off with a double. Then scored on Hayes single to left field in the fourth. They tacked on three more runs an inning later then two more in the bottom of the tenth.
Christenson (Sioux Falls) went 4-for-6 at the plate with two runs scored and 2 RBI. Him, Isaac Kim (Pomona-Pitzer), and Karson Hesser (Northern State) scored the Jackrabbits first two runs to put them on the board. Isaac Bonner (Pomona-Pitzer) had a pinch hit single with one out to get things going later in the game. The Jackrabbits get the go-ahead across in the bottom of the tenth, scoring two runs to upset the Pit Spitters. Kokomo’s pitching staff combined for six hits and eight strikeouts.
Jonathan Laguire-Cruz (Franklin College) gets the win for the after throwing 3 innings. He gave up 1 hits, 1 walk, allowed 1 run, and had 4 strikeouts.
Kenosha Kingfish 8, Rockford Rivets 6
The Kenosha Kingfish defeated the Rockford Rivets 8-6 after a long and weather-delayed day at Rivets Stadium.
The Rivets put up three runs on three hits, including a two-RBI double from Matthew Mebane (South Georgia State College) at the bottoms of the first to take the lead 3-0. He went 2-for-5 with three runs scored.
Reagan Burford (Mississippi) responded with a solo shot the next inning, cutting the lead by two for the Kingfish. Camden Karcewski (Triton College) sent a runner home on a bases loaded RBI groundout to tie the game in the sixth. Their offense ignited once more after pushing five across by the end of the sixth. Rockford’s offense kept threatening the Kingfish later in the game, making it a two run ball game by the end of the seventh.
Jake Stipp (Eckerd College) gets the win for the after throwing 4 innings. He gave up 4 hits, 2 walks, allowed 3 runs, and had 2 strikeouts.
Waterloo Bucks 9, La Crosse Loggers 10
The Loggers are now 3-0 after an extra inning win against the Waterloo Bucks. The Bucks were able to get the lead in the top of the ninth but could not keep the Loggers offense from tying it again. Their staff combined for 9 strikeouts and 9 hits on the evening.
Dylan Kordic (Golden West College) went 3-for-6 with two runs and two RBI, leading the Loggers offense this evening. Michael Debattista (Dodge City Community College) gets the win for the after throwing 4 innings. He gave up 5 hits, 5 walks, allowed 5 runs, and had 3 strikeouts.
Minot Hot Tots 7, Mankato MoonDogs 8
Mankato defeats Minot 8-7 in yet another intense extra inning ballgame, giving them a 2-1 record.
Thomas Rollauer (Citadel) led the team in hits for the Hot Tots, going 3-for-4. Christian Perez had a home run and four RBI on the evening.
Nolan Tichy (Massachusetts) went 2-for-3 at the plate with one run scored. Eight players in the MoonDogs lineup had one run. Mitchel Casperson (Gustavus Adolphus College) gets the win for the after throwing 1.1 innings. He gave up 1 hit, 0 walks, allowed 0 runs, and had 1 strikeouts.
Thunder Bay Border Cats 1, Rochester Honkers 0
Thunder Bay Border Cats come out on top with a 1-0 win after defeating the Honkers at their home field. The Border Cats stripped the chances of the Honkers going 3-0 to start the season. They are both 2-1 now.
Nico Regino (Charleston Southern) led the Honkers offense in hits with three. For the Border Cats, Lucas Terili (East Central College) went 1-for-4 at the plate with one run. Peter Fusek produced the only run of the game, getting one RBI on the night. Peyton Fosher (Nevada) gets the win for the after throwing 6.1 innings. He gave up 5 hits, 1 walk, allowed 0 runs, and had 2 strikeouts.
St. Cloud Rox 8, Bismarck Larks 9
Only one team could walk out of this game 3-0, and that team was the Bismarck Larks. They defeated St. Cloud 9-8 in another tight matchup to add to the evening.
St. Cloud tied it at the top of the ninth and sent both teams to extra innings, but could not keep the Larks at bay. Jackson Beaman (University of Missouri) went 2-for-5 with two home runs and led the team with three RBI on the evening for the Larks. The go ahead run scores on Kai Hori’s (University of New Orleans) single in the tenth inning. Frank Wierman (Colorado State – Pueblo) gets the win for the after throwing 2 innings. He gave up 1 hit, 3 walks, allowed 2 runs, and had 3 strikeouts.
Wisconsin Rapid Rafters 4, Green Bay Rockers 5
The Rockers are now 3-0 after defeating the Rafters in another extra inning match up. The Rockers walked it off with a sac fly from Jojo Jackson (Georgia State) in the bottom of the tenth inning.
Andrew Harris (Wisconsin-Parkside) capitalized with timely hitting to help tie the game in the last inning. He blasted a two run homer, making him 2-for-4 on the night with three RBI. Cole Peschl (University of Charleston) gets the win for the Rockers after throwing 4 innings. He gave up 1 hit, 1 walk, allowed 1 run, and had 8 strikeouts.
Eau Claire Express 6, Willmar Stingers 8
The Willmar Stingers make their debut with a hot offense and tight defense to defeat the Express. Eau Claire Express is now 0-3 to start the season.
The Stingers scored eight run on ten hits. Scott Anderson (Point Loma Nazarene University) went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI, tying with K Hokenson (University of Minnesota) who went 2-for-4 with three RBI on the evening as well. The Express were able to product four more in the ninth, but could not keep the momentum. DJ Massey (Central Arizona College) and Grant Gilooly (Sante Fe College) finished with two RBI.
