Today’s games featured a 12 game slate with a few tight matchups to start the night. The Duluth Huskies earn their second win of the season after defeating the Minot Hot Tots 6-5 this evening. The Kokomo Jackrabbits get the go ahead lead in the top of the ninth, defeating the Kalamazoo Growlers 10-9 and are now at 3 wins to start the week. The Wausau Woodchucks swept the Green Bay Rockers. They have a 5-game win streak, and now lead the Great Lakes West division with a 5-1 record.
Minot 5, Duluth 6
Duluth wins their first series after getting their second win against the Minot Hot Tots in an exciting ten inning battle this evening. They are now 2-2 on the season.
Caleb Corbin (Iowa Central Community College) led the Huskies offense with two RBI, going 2-for-4 with one run scored. Tyler Leroy (Arizona Western College) went 2-for-3 with two walks and one RBI. Ethan Cole (Minnesota – Duluth) walked it off in the bottom of the tenth a sac fly. Preston Tenney (Nebraska – Omaha) started the game and gets the win after throwing 4 innings – giving up 5 hits, 3 runs and had 4 strikeouts.
Kokomo 10, Kalamazoo 9
The Kokomo Jackrabbits split the series with Kalamazoo after defeating them in a tight ball game this evening. They scored 10 runs on 13 hits and made no errors in the field. The Jackrabbits are now 3-3 to start the season.
Stephen Schissler (Nova Southeastern) went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored. Joey Cicini (Regis University) was 2-for-4 with a home run, one RBI, and three runs scored. Zack Carinci (Case Western Reserve University) gets the win after throwing 2 innings with 2 strikeouts – giving up 3 hits and allowing 0 runs to score.
La Crosse 1, St. Cloud 10
The St. Cloud Rox shut down the La Crosse Loggers after scoring 5 runs on 9 hits this evening. They are now at five wins (.800) and are leading the Great Plains West division thus far.
Tanner Knowles (Georgia) went 3-for-4, leading the team in RBI this evening. Weber Neels (Minnesota) went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Ben Vujovich (University of St. Thomas) has another impressive night at the plate after going 3-for-5 with a double and run scored. Aidan Kidd (New Jersey Institute of Technology) started the game throwing 6 innings with 9 strikeouts. He only gave up 4 hits, 1 walk, and 0 runs.
Wausau 8, Green Bay 4
The Wausau Woodchucks take the series 2-0 after defeating the Green Bay Rockers 8-4 in this evening’s matchup. They now have a win streak of two and is leading the Great Lakes West division with a 5-1 (.833) start.
Drew Berkland (Minnesota) drove in 2 RBI with 2-run home run and one run scored. Jesse Donohoe (Georgia St) went 3-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored. Austin Gomm went (Parkland College) 2-for-4 with two RBI as well. Alex Breckheimer (Bryant and Stranton College) gets the win with 3.1 innings pitched, 2 hits, 0 runs, and 3 strikeouts on the night. Isaac Crab (Louisiana Tech University) got the start and threw 2.1 innings – allowing 6 hits, 4 runs, and struck out two.
Battle Creek 6, Rockford 9
The Rockford Rivets take the series as they defeated the Battle Creek Battle Jacks 9-6 in tonight’s contest. The Rivets are now 3-3 on the season.
Noah Jouras (Triton College) led the offense in RBI this evening, tacking on three for the Rivets in a 2-for-4 effort at the plate. Carson Roberts (Illinois – Chicago) went 2-for-3 with two RBI, two walks, and two runs scored. Calvin Schapira (Purdue) started the game throwing 2 innings with 2 strikeouts – giving up 6 hits and allowed 5 runs to score. Jack Wajda came in relief throwing 1. 2 innings with two strikeouts and 1 hit given up.
Willmar 16 , Bismarck 5
The Willmar Stingers came out with an explosive offense this evening with 16 runs scored on 21 hits and they had zero errors on defense. They go on to take the series against the Bismarck Larks and are now 3-1 to start the season.
Kevin Fitzer (California St University – Northridge) had an exceptional night at the plate. He went 4-for-7 with two home runs, 6 RBI, and four runs scored. Kyle Payne (Northwest Nazarene University) was second to lead the team in RBI, tacking on three for the Stingers offense. Chris Rofe (Mount Marty College) gets the win after throwing 4 innings and five strikeouts. Clay Beaumont (Northeast Community College) started the game throwing 3 innings, 4 hits, 4 runs, 4 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
Madison 2 , Lakeshore 5
The Lakeshore Chinooks defeated the Madison Mallards 5-2 making both teams at an even record (3-3) in the Great Lakes West Division. The Chinooks scored five runs across on six hits and had two errors in the field.
Four players in the Chinooks lineup had an RBI on the day. Nate Mieszkowski (Missouri Southern St) went 1-for-2 with an RBI and run scored. Dailey Collin (University of St. Thomas) started the game throwing 3 innings with 5 strikeouts and gave up 0 hits, 0 runs and 0 walks. James Reese (Lafayette College) came in relief for 3 innings – giving up 2 hits and allowing 2 runs to score and had 3 strikeouts.
Thunder Bay 7, Waterloo 8
The Waterloo Bucks rally in the ninth inning to take the lead and go on to defeat the Thunder Bay Border Cats in a highly intense matchup this evening. Down to their final three outs, the Border Cats were trailing by three and scored five to grab a two run lead. The Bucks rally back with three runs winning the game 8-7. They are now 3-3 on the season.
Brodie Kresser (West Virginia) went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Greg Nichols (Illinois St) led the team in RBI, going went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored. Seth White (Santa Barbara City College) started the game throwing 6 innings – giving up only 2 runs and struck out one batter. Ethan Alexander (Western Illinois University) came in relief throwing 3 innings with 1 strikeout – giving up 5 hits and allowing 5 runs to score.
Traverse City 13 , Kenosha 1
Traverse City tacks on their fifth win after shutting down Kenosha in a 13-1 ballgame. They are now 5-1 leading the Great Lakes East division thus far. The Pit Spitters had 13 runs on 13 hits and no errors on the field.
Blake Bean (Lenoir-Rhyne University) went 3-for-5 with a double, one RBI, and three runs scored. Kyle Hayes (Kirkwood Community College) led the team in RBI after going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run scored. Parker Brosius (Georgia Tech) also had a night at the plate as he went 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Nick Powers (Michigan St) started the game throwing 5 innings with 3 strikeouts and giving up 1 hit and one run.
Minnesota 4, Eau Claire 13
The Eau Claire Express earned a dominating win after defeating the Minnesota Mud Puppies 13-4. Eau Claire is now 3-3 on the season to start.
Ryan Nagelbach (Illinois – Chicago) went 2-for-5 on the night with one home run, four RBI, and one run scored. Dylan O’Connell (University of St. Thomas) went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored. The Mankato MoonDogs defeat Rochester again taking the series after scoring 14 runs on 13 hits today. The MoonDogs get their third win and are now 3-3 on the season.
Kip Fougerousse (University of Evansville) went perfect at the plate today after going 5-for-5 with a double, two RBI, two walks, and three runs scored. Three players in the MoonDogs offense had a homerun and two RBI on the night. Max Williams (Alabama) went 3-for-5 with a homerun, two RBI, and three runs scored. The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters split the series 1-1 with the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders after defeating them in a tight 1-0 contest.
