The Northwood’s league featured a 10 game slate that began with a couple of wins from Battle Creek and Kenosha as they both look for consistency gearing towards the end of regular season. The Madison Mallards tallied eighteen runs to defeat the leader of the Great Lakes West division, Traverse City Pit Spitters. The Rochester Honkers upset the Willmar Stingers in a 5-4 thirteen inning matchup Saturday evening. Multiple teams look to remain in the win column as they head into week five of play.

 

Wisconsin 0, Battle Creek 2

The Battle Creek Battle Jacks defeated the Wisconsin Rapid Rafters 2-0 to take game one of the series this weekend. Battle Creek earned their ninth win of the season.

Brock Daniels (Missouri) went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run scored. Charlie Rhee (San Diego St) and Blake Mcrae (Eastern Michigan) each tallied one hit and one RBI on the night. Hunter Varnadoe (Middle Georgia St) earned his fourth win on the season and is undefeated when he gets the start on the mound. He threw for 6.1 innings – allowing only one hit, zero runs, one walks, five strikeouts. Varnadoe sits with a 2.08 ERA.

Kenosha 2, Green Bay 1

The Kenosha Kingfish defeated the Green Bay Rockers 2-1 Saturday evening. The Kingfish were able to tally enough to secure the win and shut down the Rockers in remaining innings of the game. Kenosha is now 13-13 on the season.

Isaac Williams (New Orleans) went 2-for-4 with a double and one run scored. Bobby Atkinson (Heartland Community College) knocked in one run with a home run and Adam Pottinger (Indiana St) tallied one RBI on the night. Jake Stipp (Eckerd College) earned the win throwing 5.1 innings and allowed two hits, one. run, four walks, and struck out three.

Wausau 5, Kokomo 6

Kokomo gets the extra innings victory after a tight matchup against the Wausau Woodchucks. The Jackrabbits put up six runs on eight hits, while they did not outhit their opponent their timely hitting propelled them to a key win.

Four batters in Kokomo’s lineup tallied at least one hit with one RBI and one run scored on the night. Noah Christenson (Sioux Falls) led the offense with two hits. Justin Drury (Hope International) earned the win after throwing 1 inning – allowing zero hits. Kobe Essien (Quincy University) got the start on the mound and allowed seven hits and struck out three in 5 innings.

Madison 18, Traverse City 5

The Madison Mallards offense came alive against the Traverse City Pit Spitters as they tallied up to seventeen hits Saturday. The Mallards continue climbing up in the ranks as they are tied for second with a 15-12 record in the Great Lakes West.

Ryan Sprock (Elon) went 3-for-5 with two doubles, three RBI, and three runs scored. Mike Gupton (North Carolina St) tallied two hits with a double, home run, four RBI, and two runs scored. Davis Hamilton (North Dakota St) had another exciting day at the plate going 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored. Isaiah Jackson (Arizona) drove in three RBI off two doubles. Josh Wintroub (Augustana) earned the win after throwing 5 innings and allowed five hits, zero runs, zero walks, and struck out four.

St. Cloud 0, Mankato 3

The Mankato MoonDogs take game one of the series after defeating St. Cloud in a 3-0 shutout win. The MoonDogs are 16-10 on the season, ranking second in the Great Plains West division.

Kai Roberts Utah) led Mankato’s offense going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Derrick Smith (North Carolina St) earned the win throwing 6 innings and allowed four hits, zero runs, two walks, and struck out two.

Willmar 4, Rochester 5

The Rochester Honkers defeated the Willmar Stingers in thirteen innings Saturday evening, giving the Stingers their sixth loss on the season. The Honkers rank fourth in the Great Plains East with a 15-12 record.

Ben North (Creighton) and Kimo Fukofuka (San Jose St) each tallied one hit and two RBI on the night. Fukofuka drove in on with his home run to keep Rochester in the game. Will Lavin (Bemidji St) earned the win throwing 4.2 innings – allowed one hit, one run, one walk, and struck out seven.

Thunder Bay 8, La Crosse 3

The Thunder Bay Border Cats defeated the La Crosse Loggers 8-3 to take game one of the series this weekend. The Border Cats rank first with a 14-9 record in the Great Plains East division.

Tyler Kehoe (South Alabama) went 3-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored. Trey Lewis (South Alabama) went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored. Patrick Engskov (Oklahoma) also tallied two RBI on the night. Billy Humphrey (Western Illinois) earned the win after throwing 2 innings – allowing one hit, zero runs, zero walks, and struck out one.

Duluth 9, Eau Claire 10

The Eau Claire Express take game one against Duluth after rallying back to defeat them 10-9 Saturday evening. The Express are now at a 14-11 record on the season.

Tanner Sagouspe (Cal Poly) went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored. Ryan Nagelbach (Illinois – Chicago) and Nate Witte (Wisconsin – Eau Claire) each drove in two runs with one hit on the night. Jacob Taggart (Utah Tech) earned the win throwing 3.1 innings and allowed only two hits, one run, one walk, and struck out three.

Fond du Lac 6, Lakeshore 8

The Lakeshore Chinooks defeated the Dock Spiders 8-6 Saturday evening. The Chinooks rank fifth in the Great Lakes West division with a 10-16 record.

Adam Cootway (Wisconsin – Whitewater) and Avery Owusu-Asiedu (Southern Illinois – Edwardsville) went 2-for-4 and combined for three runs and two RBI. Josh Overbeek (Cisco Junior College) went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run scored. Brady Counsell (Minnesota) led the team with two hits and three RBI. Nick Yeager (Dordt) earned the win with his start on the mound – throwing 6 innings and allowed four hits, two runs, two walks, and struck out three.

Kalamazoo 5, Rockford 2

The Kalamazoo Growlers take game one of the series against the Rockford Rivets, defeating them 5-2. The Growlers combined for eights hits and zero errors on the night.

Jeter Ybarra (Washington) went 3-for-5 with one run scored, leading the team with a tally of three hits Saturday evening. Joey Winters (Ottawa – Arizona) had one hit and led the team with two RBI. Tyler Johnson (Alma College) earned the win after throwing 5 innings and allowed six hits, one run, three walks, and struck out four.
